1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Passion Flowers - Now with image (Doh!) on: September 14, 2012 04:55:42 PM
I finally put down the craft projects long enough to finished a painting. It's a bit different to anything I've done before, but I'm quite pleased with it although I think the background is too busy so I am going to do it again.

2  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Lastest Needle Felting Projects on: September 14, 2012 04:43:12 PM
After my first attempt with a small cat a friend asked me to make him a rabbit. Whilst aiming to make the rabbit look 'realistic' I decided it would be good fun to go for a cartoony look with the next one and so here are my 3rd, 4th and 5th attempts at needle felting. I love making these, stabbing away at wool is a wonderful way to relieve stress. I've broken two needles so far, but I feel much better now. Cheesy

3  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Needle Felting First Attempt at 3D on: August 11, 2012 09:20:13 AM
After looking at the wonderful things everyone else has done I was inspired to try something myself. I'm pleased with the result, but next time I will look at a picture of my cat before I start shaping the face. I'm also pleased to have found a way of using up the bits of wool thatare too short to spin with.

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Circle of Life Pendant on: June 24, 2012 05:27:10 AM
I found a piece of slate roof tile on a beach with a convenient hole in it and decorated it using acrylic paint. To keep in with the theme of recycling (and circle of life) I used scraps of decorative ribbon saved from gift boxes and bags etc. The beads came from an old broken necklace.

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Gothic Choker on: June 02, 2012 04:42:16 PM
I couldn't find a Gothic choker that I really liked so I decided to make my own. The choker is made from black bias tape with a tube of netting scruntched up and stiched occasionally to hold it in place. The decorations are coffin shaped buttons, one of which is used as the fastener for the choker and the bat is a pedant with the original chain removed. Both are available from Alchemy 1977 although I bought them through Drac-In-a-Box.

One thing I thing I did learn from making this is to allow for the thickness of the scruntched material when measuring your neck and check for scratchyness when you choose the netting. Luckily it all worked out okay and it comes in handy for covering those vampire bites

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 'Vampires Rock' Coat on: December 19, 2011 01:40:42 PM
This link is to the coat I made for my friend based on costumes from the musical 'Vampires Rock'.
I used a commercial pattern and made adaptations to get the style we were after. As it's the first time I have made anything from a commercial pattern or used a sewing machine I'm amazed that it came together - and fitted!
Not the best project for a beginner, but I'd had a couple of glasses of wine and it looked easy when I promised I would make it. I did sign up for some sewing classes which helped a lot, especially with the adaptations.
The buttons are small metal bats flying in a 4-3-4 formation, they are a bit small for the weight of the denim so doing up and undoing is a bit fiddly. I used pink leather for the lacing down the back and black leather for the lacing on the cuffs. The lining is the same colour as the pink panel down the back, so it is quite eye catching when the coat is worn open.
