Project: Avocado Brownies

So, these turned out much darker and bitter than expected. Maybe next time I'll use milk or semi sweet instead of dark chocolate, or a combination.  We'll see!  But the hidden component in these is avocado, which was masked nicely and not noticeable at all!  The texture was amazing too.

This is the recipe:

1 large ripe avocado (about 200g avocado/just under 1 cup mashed)
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp water
1x 100g/3.5 oz bar of dark chocolate
1 cup + 1 tbsp (85g) cocoa powder
1/4-1/2 cup sugar (I used 1/2 c)
1/2 tsp baking soda
Pinch of salt

Preheat your oven to 180C/355F.
Grease and/or line an 8" square cake pan or brownie pan
In a food processor, puree your avocado with your eggs, vanilla and water until smooth.
Melt your chocolate and mix through your avocado mix in the food processor.
Add in your cocoa, sugar, baking soda and salt and mix until just combined.
If your mixture is too thick, add another 1 tbsp or so of water to combine.
Scoop your mixture out of your food processor into your prepared pan, smoothing out the top and making sure you spread out the mix to all of the edges.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and a skewer inserted removes clean.
Leave to cool before taking out of the pan and chilling in the fridge.
Slice and serve chilled.

Brief Description: This was made for my boyfriend's little brother for his birthday.  His name is Trace and he loves all sorts of "T"s and "Q"s for his initials.  We wouldn't be able to give him his real birthday present on his birthday, so I wanted to have something for his celebration and I made this.  Of course I decided to do it the night before, so it required real concentration to meet the deadline!  I got fed up with the paper quilling and filled in parts of it with doodles instead.  Thankfully, he loved it!

3  Painting Shoes in Shoes: Discussion and Questions by laurenb1992 on: February 19, 2013 09:36:44 AM
I want to paint shoes like the ones here for my boyfriend (not subject-wise, but that type of shoe).  What type of shoes would you use and what type of paint?  Does it fade/chip over time?  Thanks!
