1  2 new soaps and a lotion bar in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by erlyna on: November 03, 2011 07:42:03 PM
Ok here are two new soaps: the green speckled is Almond Facial Bar out of Anne Watsons Smart Soapmaking and is scented with cotton candy. I'd prefer to find a pink clay to use for coloring but all I had was green. It was fantastic I made these last night and woke up to a cotton candy smelling hotel room.

The orange is Honey Bee Good soap from thesage.com and this time I scented it with frankinsence and myrrh FO. According to one of my hardy welding coworkers it has a very manly smell and the cotton candy is definitely a girly soap Smiley.

The yellow cup looking thing is a solid lotion bar that I'd love to test out beyond rubbing on my arm but the smell is atrocious (I'm definitely gonna have to do something about molds.) I used non deoderized cocoa butter and it interacted with the lavendar lilac FO I added in. I also am not a flowery smell lover my sister and niece are so maybe I will try it out on them if they can stand it. But the little bit I rubbed on soaked in quite well and the cocoa smell seemed to go away much sooner than the lavender but I just hate the smell.

2  Yeehaw! Hello Everyone! My first batch of soap! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by erlyna on: September 04, 2011 07:29:14 PM
Ok First I wanted to say Hello and thanks to everyone on here for their inspirational projects and ideas! Yes I'll be using alot of exclamations points! I'm very excited to finally have made my own account with craftster and to have stopped lurking. See? I'm calming down.  Smiley

On to the good stuff! My short story is this. I am allergic to something in Pantene something about it makes me veerry dizzy and nauseas and gives me headaches. Brilliant Brunette was even worse, and I thought I was pampering myself with the brunette stuff! Because of this I thought I'm gonna go as natural as I can get less chemicals on my head the better off I will be. So on to the natural section of walmart I went. I wasnt a fan of the shampoo smells Burts Bees had to offer and the other brands had things I couldn't pronounce in them so I thought "eh might as well use suave." Except I do love Giovann,i they seem to be mostly natural ingredients. So one day I walked by Lush. Expensive enough to feel like I was pampering myself and vegan...organic...raw...handmade! Whoo hoo I was in love! Didn't really like the prices, but I thought "they're all natural! No more dizziness!"

A week later I'm thinking waiiiit a minute.... I still feel dizzy. Hmm So on to the website I go. Why would any store advertising vegan, organic, handmade items still feel it necessary to throw in sls into their products? Why?! This led me to think as I usually do ha I could make that myself without the sls and save money. So I look up shampoo bars and soap and all sorts of goodies and come across craftster. I absolutely love this site!

I've been looking at "soap porn" for a couple months now and i love that term " soap porn" so appropriate. Oh yeah baby show me what your workin with... let me see that swirl... lol I think one of my favs was the celestial collection. Anyway! I'm so easily distracted...

I came on here tonight to say... I did it! I made my first batch of hot process soap! With lye and everything! hehe... so I'm gonna try and upload some pics. I made one small batch of shampoo bars using a lush dupe scent for rock star from daystar supplies. Now I also tried using coloring that I bought from Michaels for melt and pour so bear with me these arent really pretty but the smell is alright and most importantly they lather quite well. I know this because as I took them out of my "molds" I smeared some spots down and as I rinsed my hands off I had a nice lather poof up.

(Except now my hands are dry. Is that normal? Or did I not cook them long enough?)

I also made a 3 bar batch of massage bars using the recipe off of thesage... http://www.thesage.com/recipes/recipes.php?.State=Display&id=107
The weird looking top is where I added honey to the oils after they'd been melted. Yes I know I'm going to have to learn to not add things here and there, but it just went with the smell! Oh they smell like lushs Honey I Washed The Kids.

Ok I've got the photos uploaded to my profile, How do I hook them to my post?
