3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Band Geek/Orch Dork Swap on: August 18, 2005 11:43:40 AM
I just got home from marching band practice, and the thought struck me: what about a musician swap?  I know a lot of us have artistic talents outside of crafting, music being one of them! No need to play in a band or orchestra, but if you love making music at home even, it could work! We could swap things for our instruments, music, or even music-themed stuff! What do you all think? I tried to search to see if the idea was previously posted, but I didn't find anything.  I'd be willing to organize it, if we had some people who wanted to do it! Anyone interested?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Tshirt Recon Questions on: May 28, 2005 11:02:12 AM
Okay, I'm sorry if I sound pathetic.. but I've been a member of this site for a while, and in that time, I've seen some really great projects from Tshirts and other stretchy fabrics.  Now, I have a really old sewing machine that I love (like.. your grandmother's sewing machine) and use to make bags and such.  I've tried some Tshirt reconstructions, and it's never seemed to work.  The stretchy material makes the thread bunch up, and I get so frustrated.  What is the secret?  Is it a serger? What is a serger?  I have some great huge shirts that I'd like to do things with.. I'm just not sure how!  Any tips would be very appreciated
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Sweet Boyfriend birthday Gift! on: May 11, 2005 01:24:02 PM
It's my boyfriend's 20th birthday in a month, and I need to make him something special.  In the past, I've made him an email scrapbook (we do a lot of emailing), a box with 100 reasons why i love him, fortune cookies with romantic messages, and I've drawn a picture of us together with a recorded message on the back...stuff like that.  So, he's expecting something sweet and romantic... but i'm all out of ideas!  He likes classic rock and music a lot.  I don't really want to get him a "themed" gift (ie. something for his computer or an ipod cozy) but rather just a really sweet one.  He's in college, so I can't really decorate his room or surprise him.. any ideas? Please!  And I hope my old gifts give some people new ideas ;-)
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Cat-tastrophy! on: May 07, 2005 05:49:44 AM
Okay, I've beaded a lot of jewelry with seedbeads and such from designs in my own head and picture instructions, but I have no idea what the different types of terms or "stitches" are for beading.  Recently, I came across this: http://www.firemountaingems.com/pdf/peacefultiger.pdf and I'd really like to make it.  Any ideas as to how i'd go about doing that?
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Decorating a prom dress on: April 16, 2005 02:37:35 PM
Hi, I've been floating around here for a few months now but this is my first post.  Wink A week ago, I bought a dark blue prom dress for $4 at a thrift store.  It's princess cut, satin (i think), and strapless.  It's very plain, so i want to spice it up a bit, but I don't know what to do!  I'm afraid that i don't have enough crafting ability to add layers or something like that.  I'm not sure how!  Thank you!
