1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Steampunkish Portable Pin Case on: February 12, 2012 04:09:01 PM
This is a quick attempt at a Steampunk Portable Pincase.  It's a mock up for a beginners sewing class concept.  I want to teach them something simple that will be useful after the class is done.

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / New Goldtone Corset on: February 12, 2012 12:21:43 PM
Made this as a gift for a friend.  It's an 1800's style Victorian corset.  The dress form is the wrong size but my adjustable dress form doesn't shrink down to Kim's size.  It'll look better when it's one someone with the right curves.

Mind the messy costume room.  Now that the corset is done I can set about cleaning it.

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / More Sparkles and Wire (Necklaces) on: February 06, 2012 03:30:02 PM
I have an obvious fascination with Swarovski Crystal.  So sparkly, so pretty.  Recently I've started playing with different methods of using it in jewellery and this weekend I came up with two more necklaces.  Only the front portion is wrapped wire pieces, the chain that they hang on is actually some vintage junk chain I've been hoarding.  Once again I apologise for the horrible dim kitchen photos.

4  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Purple Doublet on: January 29, 2012 04:02:13 PM
Finished this doublet today.  It's too big for the person wearing it in the photo, but the person it's made for wasn't here today so I had to make it work.  I'll be making a nice pair of sleeves to go with it but the body is finished.  The buttons are hand embroidered buttons and whole thing is lined and interlined.

The mask just happened to be in the costume room, so it seemed like a good idea at the time...

5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Buttons Buttons (Embroidered Buttons) on: January 29, 2012 10:58:55 AM
I'm in garbing mode recently to get ready for summer and I've started making buttons for the outfits because it's an easy enough project to travel around with me and the typical plastic buttons from the fabric stores just aren't cutting it lately.  My hands are sore, but I'm making decent progress I think!

6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Steampunk Necklaces on: January 15, 2012 08:32:50 PM
Well I'm supposed to be relaxing before I start the new job tomorrow, but that lasted about a whole 10 minutes before I got crazy fidgetty again and had to start working again.  I made these two necklaces up this afternoon with some lightly golden hued Swarovski and antiqued bells and odds and ends I've been hoarding for a while.  Pardon the awful photos, taken in a dim kitchen.

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / I can't sit still (Necklaces) on: January 15, 2012 05:36:45 PM
I've had a lot of extra time on my hands this last month, so I went a little crazy and made a lot of stuff.  Here's some of the necklaces I came up with at the end of December.  I finally got them all photographed (which took days of effort given the colume of stuff I made).

8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / I lost my mind (And made 90 pairs of earrings in 48 hours) on: January 14, 2012 02:28:13 PM
The week right before christmas I had a lot of time on my hands and for lack of anything sane to do, I decided to make 100 unique pairs of earrings.  I failed at my attempt and only made 90.  This is a classic case of "idle hands are the devils playground" I think.  I won't post all 90 of them here because I won't choke this post with that many shots, but I did also have to photograph all of these, one by one and that took even longer than making them.

Don't try this at home kids.

9  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Beaded 16th Cent Doublet on: January 01, 2012 08:08:29 PM
This is a doublet I beaded for a friend of mine in the SCA. (I hope this is the right forum for this.)  I only did the beading, he did the actual sewing together of the pieces once I was done.  It's purple silk noil and it's such a nice colour.  I patterend glass pearls all over it by using a grid drawn on canvas behind the silk.  I think all the beading took me less than a week because he wanted to wear it to a specific event.

The Doublet:

A Close Up:

And the Grid for the beading:

The Grid was easy to make using a clear plastic ruler.  The lines are all spaced about two inches apart.
10  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Swashbucklers from Summer 2011 (Heavy with Pic Booty) on: January 01, 2012 08:00:39 PM
These are again pics from this Summer and late Spring.  My Geeky side belongs a household in the Society for Creative Anachronism  http://www.sca.org/  As such, they're always in need of costumes or garb and since it's mostly boys who'd rather be practicing their fencing and western martial arts, I'm usually left dressing them.

So here's some stuff I made this year and never got around to posting here.  All pictures are from the same event...

This first pic is from our camp, I made everything picture.  The shirts are broadcloth poofy shirts, the green pants on the guy in the middle have strips of wine coloured trim and I hand beaded glass pearls and gold seed beads along them.  There is a matching doublet to go with it but for the life of me I can't find a picture of it worn!

The brown doublet was made from super cheap chocolate brown satin and the sleeves have gold embroidery striping them that I did using a fancy sewing machine stitch.

My gold dress is actually the Tudor kirtle to my Tudor gown.  So I'm just being a hussy running around in my underwear!

This next picture is another shot of the "boys" on their way to the fencing tourney.  The three on the left are all of my work.  They're all pretty much the same in style as far as doublets, shirts and pants go.

Actually the pants are the exact same pair of pants with different lengths of elastic in the waistband to change the size. lol.  I HATE making pants.  This is my way of cheating.

The black jacket in the middle is not usually part of our garb collection.  It's an ancient relic of costuming days gone by for us, I have no idea why we brought it out that day.

This is what the boys wore for their fencing outfits for the tourney that day.  The clothes are intentionally baggy here because the boys are wearing body armour underneath for safety.  And obviously, I have a thing for costuming with black fabric. Tongue

And this picture is from a different event where we were vendoring but it shows the green over gown atop my kirtle and chemise from the first picture.  I should be wearing a panel over the front to cover the lacing, but I got lazy and didn't want to pin it on.
