1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Help! I want to dye my slipcover! on: March 11, 2006 09:53:07 AM
So... my Ikea couch is currently covered in this: (it's sort of a light chartreuse)

And, I want to dye it a dark chocolate brown.   It's 63% cotton and 37% linen.  Is this even possible?  If I do it myself at home, is there a way to ensure that the color comes out even and not tie-dyed looking?   What products would you recommend?

Or...  Are there places that do this professionally?  I thought maybe cleaners or upholsterers, but I can't find any that advertise dyeing.

Thanks SOOOO much for any help you can give!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / A warm gift for a SAD time on: February 26, 2006 06:04:49 PM
I finished this shawl about a month ago, and was going to give it to my Mom in April for her birthday.  Well, she called me this morning and told me my Grandmother (her Mother) died last night.  My family is on the west coast, I'm on the east, and I won't be able to go home for the funeral.  So, I decided to send this to her now as a BIG HUG from me, because I know that's what she really needs right now.   I just wish I could be there to do it in person instead.   Sad

Have any of you given crafted gifts for sad occasions?

btw, I got the pattern here: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/khs-diam.html?noImages=

So, I've been knitting since late Oct. and I am OBSESSED!!!   This is the first thing I've done on dpn's, and even though it's not perfect I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Now I just have to make the second one!   Tongue

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / tattoo baby doll (baby doll modification) on: September 08, 2005 07:21:24 PM
I read about an artist named Sherri Wood in BUST magazine who sends baby dolls to tattoo artists to be "tattooed"  and I thought that something like this would make a fun swap.  Here's a link to her website with the dolls (check out the gallery) http://www.daintytime.com/tattoo/

Anyway...  I was thinking that it could be done similar to the Thrift Store Picture Revamp Swaps.  You would buy a baby doll from a thrift store, etc. (or use one you already have) and send it to your partner to be "tattooed."  Then your partner would send your doll back to you.

Also, I guess other modifications could be made as well... clothes, accessories, make-up, etc.

Would anyone be interested in this?

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Favorite Food Swap? on: August 28, 2005 08:03:59 AM
HI!  Would anyone be interested in a swap based on your favorite food?  We wouldn't be sending the actual food (of course), but crafts based on the food.  I'm sorta new to swapping, but I think I would like to try this for my first time organizing a swap.  I'm thinking sign-ups mid Sept, and send out mid Oct.  If there's enough interest that is.  Oh, and my favorite are artichokes! YUM! Wink
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Muppet Babies ANIMAL bag on: August 14, 2005 03:52:47 PM
Hi.. just wanted to share another bag I've made.  It's out of a pillow doll fabric.  I have the pillow fabric for just about all of the Muppet Babies and I plan on making bags out of all of them.  I'll update with photos as I finish.

What do you think?
9  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / Copy Cat Challenge? on: July 23, 2005 07:48:06 AM
How about a copy cat challenge where you copy a "real" item.  I think it could be anything clothing, furniture, whatever, and you wouldn't have to actually have the "real" item, because I think a picture would be enough.  Maybe you copy something that is expensive, but use "cheap" materials.  There could be a set spending limit, or you could just show the difference in cost between the "real" item and your item.  Also, I don't think that the crafted item would have to be exact, but could be similar to/inspired by the "real" item.  I'd love to see what everyone comes up with.  Does anyone else like this idea?

I got the idea for this from all of the posts I've seen where people ask for help in making things that are too expensive for them.
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Thunder Cats Beach Tote on: July 17, 2005 08:05:51 AM
I just finished this for a friend of mine, it's a "just because" present.  I made it out of old bed sheets of course, 'cause I don't know where else you could ever find fabric like this.  But, I sure wish you could!   Cheesy  Hope she likes it!
