1  Help! I want to dye my slipcover! in Dyeing: Discussion and Questions by sewberrycrazy on: March 11, 2006 09:53:07 AM
So... my Ikea couch is currently covered in this: (it's sort of a light chartreuse)

And, I want to dye it a dark chocolate brown.   It's 63% cotton and 37% linen.  Is this even possible?  If I do it myself at home, is there a way to ensure that the color comes out even and not tie-dyed looking?   What products would you recommend?

Or...  Are there places that do this professionally?  I thought maybe cleaners or upholsterers, but I can't find any that advertise dyeing.

Thanks SOOOO much for any help you can give!

2  A warm gift for a SAD time in Knitting: Completed Projects by sewberrycrazy on: February 26, 2006 06:04:49 PM
I finished this shawl about a month ago, and was going to give it to my Mom in April for her birthday.  Well, she called me this morning and told me my Grandmother (her Mother) died last night.  My family is on the west coast, I'm on the east, and I won't be able to go home for the funeral.  So, I decided to send this to her now as a BIG HUG from me, because I know that's what she really needs right now.   I just wish I could be there to do it in person instead.   Sad

Have any of you given crafted gifts for sad occasions?

btw, I got the pattern here: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/khs-diam.html?noImages=

If you want to use a ring, you could search for d-rings or if you want something like this search for tri glides

So, I've been knitting since late Oct. and I am OBSESSED!!!   This is the first thing I've done on dpn's, and even though it's not perfect I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Now I just have to make the second one!   Tongue

THANKS FOR LOOKING!

I got my package today from lasandri, and I LOVE IT!!!  Grin
She made me some fabulously soft wrist warmers/fingerless gloves, and sent some great yarns too.  The multi-colored yarn is hand spun, and the dark purplish-blue one is a lovely soft cotton.  And, as if that weren't enough, she made me some stitch markers to help me when I venture into more complicated knitting.  I can't thank you enough lasandri, everything is perfect.  I wore the gloves all afternoon, and they kept me VERY warm.   Grin

I received the GREATEST ties today from Sharla.  THANK YOU SO MUCH Sharla!!!!   They are EXACTLY what I was looking for, and I think I have enough now to finish off my supply for this bag by rickrackruby. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=45985.0

They couldn't have come at a better time....   funds are tight, so my thrift shopping has had to stop for a little while.   But, now I will be able to make the bag anyway!!!   YAY!!!!   I can't wait to get started!

THANKS AGAIN Sharla!!!!

Look at the AWESOME Strawberry Shortcake stuff that laraebay sent me....  Shocked

The best part is that I already have a ton of SSC stuff, but I didn't have any of these things.   I LOVE it all, thanks sooooo much laraebay.

Oh, and I can't wait to play with the paper dolls!!   Cheesy

Here is the BEAUTIFUL doll that princess_me sent me.  Her name is Autumn, and she is PERFECT!!!
Thanks again princess_me, I absolutely LOVE her!!!
Cheesy

I don't have before pictures, but she was just a plain cloth bodied doll.  Also, I have to apologize to princess_me for taking so long to post pictures.  I wanted to take pictures of her in some beautiful fall setting, but it seems that all of the trees in my yard went from green to completely dead and crumbling (no pretty fall colors).  So this is what I came up with instead.

9  Re: ONGOING WISH SWAP ROUND TWO - SIGN UP is ongoing SWAPPING STARTS NOW! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by sewberrycrazy on: October 30, 2005 01:56:16 PM
I've got your something grey/silver with black hearts!

This is my SECOND WISH to fulfill, and I am in the USA

Here's my list:

~ some sort of resin made jewelry

~ a knit or crocheted neck warmer thingy that can be raised to also cover my head (I think it's called a cowl), or mini poncho

~ a cloche hat with a very small brim (knit, crochet, sewn, whatever)

~ knit or crocheted arm warmers or fingerless gloves with really soft yarn

~ vintage men's neckties.  I especially love the ones that have some texture to them (not just the plain silky ones), and I'm trying to find some with greens/blues/grays/blacks in them to make a bag with, but really any colors will do.

~ I think this is a long shot but... I would love a sewing pattern for a cloche style hat with a brim. Similar to this:
I think this would be considered a cloche, because it sits really low and tight on your head.  Anyway, I really want to make something like this.

~ any unique yarns, I'm teaching myself to knit so I have a lot of the simple acrylic stuff, but I would like some other types to play around with.  I think lasandri is doing this one, but she may be doing fingerless gloves as well.

... and because I am teaching myself to knit there are some other things I would like to help me with that...
~ any circular knitting needles that you're not using anymore
~ any books magazines with good patterns for beginners

... Um, I'll try to think of more, and add on if I need to.

I'm a bohemian-hippie at heart, but my usual dress is fairly casual.  Deep/Dark Teal is my current favorite color.  I also, love almost every other blue or green, and muted colors, autumn colors, grays, and dark purple.  I like retro or vintage looking things.    Actually I'm pretty eclectic, and would like just about anything, especially if it's comfortable and casual.

I got the most PERFECT (for me) scarf from taped_on_wings (#102).   It's just the way I like it.... long (about 6 feet) skinny (3-4 inches) and some of my favorite colors (gray, dark purple, and dark teal).  And on top of all that it is soooooo SOFT!  I know the teal yarn is chenille, but I'm not sure what the other two are.  I'm sorry the pictures aren't the best.  taped_on_wings, if you have better ones please post them.   Oh, I also love how she made the stripes go vertically instead of horizontally, I think it makes it very unique.  THANKS for making this just for me  Grin  I LOVE IT!!
