As I wait on the blocks from this swap. I got the fabric to do a sloth feather block in greens and oranges on a dark gray with black in it.

I think it will be nice. I have the fabric all washed and ironed. Will cut the pieces out tomorrow or later tonight LOL. Then sew up the top over the next week.

Here is a peek at how I am planning to lay it out

Hoping everyone is well and having a good weekend

43  Hot Pads in Quilting: Completed Projects by carolmb on: February 16, 2014 05:21:32 AM
Greetings Everyone,

After doing all the blocks for the quilt block swap rd5. I got bored LOL

So I took two of the blocks I had and made hot pads for my counter. Each has the silver backed batting (insulated). So as to redirect the heat from my counter into the bottom of the pot. I use my center island in my kitchen a lot for setting out a meal, saves room on my table.

The hex one is the Hex part of the Hexing around block. I didn't really like the white in the center once I was done with it. So I turned it into something else I could use.

The star/pinwheel block was one from round4 that was sent to me in addition to the correct size blocks and I simply loved the texas bluebonnets on it so made it useful as well.

I sewing around the edge leaving room to turn (I should of trimmed the batting at the turn point, but well learn as ya go LOL.

Then I quilted in the ditch around the ringers on the hexing block and around the colors on the star/pinwheel block

thanks for looking

Here is the paper piecing block I tried. It is an 8 inch block. I wanted to make sure it would go together before wasting time resizing LOL

Its the double heart block

Will wait on some more ideas to come up and sample some more LOL

Okay after walking away for a while. I went back at the block.

First off I had cut the width of the strips to large by a 1/4inch. I redid the strips and it came together nicely

I will state it is not a simple block to do. As you can see in my sample the center puckered. I am not so good at interlocking seams and the 5/8 of a inch given to leave unsewn just didnt seem to work so great for me. Might want to do a bit more. Also I would starch the pieced before sewing together they seem to go out of shape just a bit.

Other then that it is a block I would do again. But not a beginner block at all folks

Worked on two of the blocks at random.
The X and + block: it turned out slightly small would suggest a a scant 1/4 inch seam

The hex go round block: an important thing to remember is when adding the triangles longer side down the side of the block shorter side on the top and bottom. I would also have cut them slightly larger 6x8

Will post the pics in a bit

X's and +'s block (I cut it down to the 12.5 since it did not come out the 13)

Hexing Around Block (I had to piecemill the boarder in order to get to 12.5)

Both block together:

Thanks for picking such wonderful new blocks to try. Am planning on sampler a few more tomorrow
