12  fairy/victorianesque super-embellished pouch-purse-thing with pearls and lace!!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by melodicdreams on: December 07, 2005 02:50:47 AM
I've been making xmas presents recently - this one's for my Irish teacher (as in teacher of Irish language)...

The shiny purple material was actually originally a long skirt that didn't really suit me. I heavily embellished it (hoorah) with floral lace, sequins (of course), ribbons and tiny sparkly gold stitches. It does up with a pearly pink button and silver elastic thing. Also I went a bit mad with the beads and made a little 'trail' from the corner with sparkly thread and pearls. So much fun!! I'm making them on commission and they will be available from the Raggle Taggle Gypsy... http://www.melodicdreams.org.uk/raggletagglegypsy

14  Re: Romany gypsy bag from skirt :) I've gone sew-crazy!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by melodicdreams on: September 11, 2005 01:52:04 PM
The bag is black - the 2nd pic had more flash and looks grey - but I left it like that so you can see the zip detail.
I made a tutorial Smiley

15  Romany gypsy bag from skirt :) I've gone sew-crazy!! (now with tute) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by melodicdreams on: September 11, 2005 09:35:06 AM
Well in true unorganised fashion, I didn't photograph the skirt before I took the scissors to it, but basically it was a straight-ish black woollen pencil-esque thing with a lovely red and green floral design embroidered on the front. I only wore it once, because the shape was really unflattering! But the embroidery was so pretty I couldn't sell it or throw it away, so I decided to turn it into a great big slouchy shoulder bag, which will be really useful for when I move to Ireland next week for uni!

I used the shiny lining of the skirt for the lining of the bag. The waistband of the lining is basically the top of the bag, so the zip from the waist of the skirt creates a nice big pocket out of the front of the bag!

Here's me going sew-crazy after hand-sewing the entire thing in about 2 hours with no break  Tongue (my mum's machine has broken)

16  Reconstructed Cropped Denim Waistcoat from jacket!! Hoorah! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by melodicdreams on: September 11, 2005 09:27:41 AM
Inspired by this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-SEXY-HALTERNECK-DISTRESSED-DENIM-WAISTCOAT_W0QQitemZ5423017432QQcategoryZ108902QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I took a boring old jean jacket (sorry no before pic) that I never wore and turned it into this:

it's not as elegant as the ebay one, but I like it!

P.S. take it from me, hand-sewing denim jackets is not a clever plan ... ow!!

18  ~ my celtic copper pendants on black thong ~ in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by melodicdreams on: August 18, 2005 08:38:45 AM
My good friend Rachel Marsh gave me a crash-course in copper-smithing a few weeks ago...here's what I came up with!
(pic #2 - thong is looped because it was slightly too long for my neck)

I made all the metal pieces myself, including the links, clasps etc.

Forged ~ burnt copper plate with spiral in copper wire

Comments welcome and appreciated! Smiley

19  blue bird pin with lace flowers and sequins! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by melodicdreams on: August 18, 2005 08:21:20 AM
As a result of developing a distinctly bizarre bird (specifically swallow) obsession recently, I decided today to make a little bird pin/patch (it will have a pin at some point soon!).
Simple design - blue felt body. I cut some tiny flowers out of a piece of floral lace and stitched them on, and finished it with lots of mini sequins. Because it was a bit flimsy, being just felt, I glued it onto a piece of paper and then cut round it so that it has a paper back.

Here he/she is, flying over a photograph of County Kerry (ire)

aww Smiley

Apologies for the dodgy picture quality! He doesn't stand up on his own...

I think he came out really well Smiley Only took about 1 1/2 hours to make from scratch - I made my own pattern.
