Congrats on your first sale!

 I think it's better to start off with a well known market place like Etsy. You don't have to promote your shop as much and the fees aren't that high to list an item. ($0.20) And then, if you do really well, you start your online shop.

 ~ That's just my opinion.

I think it's great to make a variety of goods- as long as they all look somewhat similar and have a unique style to them. It creates good branding and gives a certain "look" to your shop.

A few things turn me off when I'm looking at items online:

1) TyIpNg ThAt LoOks LiKe ThIs- It's hard to read and looks unprofessional.

2) Poorly written descriptions- descriptions that give no size or dimension of the item or have lots of spelling mistakes.

3) Expensive Shipping- It's a big turn-off for me when I see an item that's $2.00 and see the shipping's $8.00, usually it's on light weight items that take no more than $3 to ship!

I received my first sale 2 months after opening my shop! I have put a lot of time and effort into my shop and await more sales...

Here are 3 good tips for selling on Etsy:

1) Participate in the Etsy Community. It's great for promoting your shop and getting advice.
2) Focus on your target market.
3) SEO. (Search Engine Optimization) Tag your items accurately and include lots of adjectives and good info in your descriptions. It'll help you get found more easily in searches.
