21  Prayer Flag Swap Rd 4 (SIGNUP 4/9/14-4/16/14 ; MAIL BY 5/14/14) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by CraftyMamaBee on: April 09, 2014 04:08:05 PM

Link to our fabulous Gallery!

One of my favorite Craftster Organizers, Leslieshappyheart started these swaps in 2012. I loved it and well the last one was almost 8 months ago! I thought it was time that we had another!!! So taken directly from the previous 3 rounds here is the info for this new round!

The concept is simple: decorate a rectangle of fabric with words and/or images that convey a personal prayer. It can be all fabric, or a mixed-media piece, it's up to you.

The prayer flag will be a finished size of 5" x 8", so it will be small and easy to mail in an envelope. This will be a NO EXTRAS swap, so it will be doable!(If you and your partner both want extras, you can post pictures in the personal swap gallery).  The send out date is May 14th, 2014. For this round with it being my first organizing it will be just one partner...But with the option of making one or two flags. ( I will try to make sure you are partnered with people who want to make the same number of flags...)

There is a cool blog called Prayer Flag Project that is dedicated to these flags where you can read more on the topic. The original idea is that the prayer flag is hung outdoors to slowly deteriorate and release your prayer into the world.  With that in mind, you can see that it is not expected to be a masterpiece of perfect stitching.  Rather, it is an art piece that is thoughtfully and prayerfully made.

Click Here the gallery from the first swap.
Click Here for the gallery from the 2nd Round
Click Here for the gallery from the 3rd Round

We will use the article about them in Cloth Paper Scissors as our guide; the instructions below are taken from that link:

How to Make Prayer Flags

1. Cut pieces of fabric to 5" x 11". Use materials you already have on hand.
2. Fold the top down on each piece of fabric and stitch in place to create a 3" sleeve, making the flag surface 5" x 8".
3. Paint, stitch, embroider, appliqué, or collage the flags.
4. Add words, journaling, or symbols as desired. You can appliqué letters, add hand stitching, stencil with textile paint, or just write with a permanent marker.
5. Thread the flags onto a string or cord and hang them outdoors so the breeze will catch them and spread your intentions.

Details of swap:
--You will craft one or two prayer flags for your partner, keeping your partner’s preferences in mind.  Extras are NOT allowed.  If you and your partner want to send anything other than the prayer flag, please do not post pictures of those items in the swap thread (but you may post pictures in the personal swap gallery, if you like.)
--You will have four full weeks to craft and send, from April 16th to May 14th.
-- Please post in this thread (or the gallery thread) at least once a week so we know you are still crafting with us.

*PLEASE READ THIS!*

22  Victorian Netted Necklace in Beads: Completed Projects by CraftyMamaBee on: March 12, 2014 02:03:03 PM
Last year a friend asked me to create a necklace for her that had a few certain colors and reminded her of the movie "Marie Antoinette" with Kirsten Dunst... So I watched the movie and listened to the soundtrack several times and this is what I came up with!

She wanted the back to tie with a ribbon...

The black neck portion was done with freeform peyote stitch and crystals and vintage pieces.

Here is what it looks like being worn!

I'm happy to say she really loves it! The cameo was a vintage piece I picked up and beaded. There is a piece of pink suede on the back of it. I made the black neck piece first and then added on the netting. It actually is not that heavy of a piece! This is the last thing I completed last year... I am now on to bigger pieces to enter in our fair this summer!

23  "Whale of a Tale" Baby Quilt made partially from a Bridesmaid Gown in Quilting: Completed Projects by CraftyMamaBee on: January 06, 2014 07:36:38 AM
Well a few months ago a friend gave me two bridesmaid dresses she wore at two different friends weddings who are now having babies… As it turns out the one gown was blue and the woman is having a boy! How perfect is that. So I took a simple quilt pattern and a piece of the dress and a simple paper pieced block and made the following quilt.

The darker blue sateen fabric is from this dress

This was the block used throughout the blanket

The whale block was from ProtoQuilt that I found through craftsy.com in their pattern gallery…

THe backing is a simple snuggle flannel and it measures 36" square. It was super simple to piece and I did super simple quilting on it. The second blanket is for a girl and I had a coral/pink dress to work with… I am currently finishing that blanket up and will post as soon as I finish it! I'm having to finish all my special orders for friends before I have a baby at the end of January! Not much time!

24  Re: Fabric Art Journal Pages Swap - Send out December 16 in The Swap Gallery by CraftyMamaBee on: December 21, 2013 09:39:11 AM
I received from Rosie1981 yesterday evening! It was a little too dark outside to get a few good photos so I waited until this morning! There is actually something funny about my page…

Yesterday morning I was out running errands and for some reason in the car I was thinking about my Senior Yearbook and the quote I chose to go under my Senior portrait… Don't ask why that came to mind but I am 8 months pregnant so that could be part of it… Anyway I chose a quote from Mulan the Disney movie about a flower blooming in adversity… I thought how silly my fellow classmates thought I must have been for choosing a Disney movie quote… I went to a small school with a Senior class of 23! So I laughed to myself in the car and thought oh well… and didn't think about it again…

Then my Journal Page arrived….

I never mentioned this quote anywhere! She said she chose it because we are both going to have babies early next year and will both be raising 2 girls… and thought this was appropriate for me as a mom! Can you believe it??!! She chose the same quote! I guess I didn't chose too bad after all in Senior year!

Thanks so much! I LOVE the flag and how I had just been thinking about that quote yesterday! She also sent this awesome little bunting! I am going to put it up in the baby's room and then add it to her baby book!

25  Re: Fabric Art Journal Pages Swap - Send out December 16th in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by CraftyMamaBee on: November 16, 2013 08:49:10 AM

This is one I made over the summer…. It was made for a friends mother who was ill….. With the burlap in the background I had to use a piece of card stock to stabilize it. Luckily my partner and I both want 8.5x11" sizes so I like that I can brainstorm on a piece of paper!

I am so excited about this!!!!

26  Cinderella Art Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by CraftyMamaBee on: October 28, 2013 08:02:04 AM
Well my daughter is turning 3 on the 30th of October and she just had a Cinderella themed party this last weekend. I wanted to have a special wall hanging for her party and made this Cinderella Silhouette Quilted wall hanging last week just for her party!
I had attached the binding but hadn't finished attaching it to the back in this photo

The background all started as Charm squares. I used 4 white Fat Quarters of different white/white tonal prints and 2 Teal and Cream 1/4 yd. cuts of fabric. I then cut all the charms into 2 1/2in. squares. I pieced and quilted the backdrop first. This I attached the silhouette with Heat n Bond and stitched around the perimeter.

It measures 24"x36" completed… and here is what the final product looked like at her party!

Now it will be moved into her "Big Girl" room for her to enjoy year round!

I had a CRAZY week and did receive from cmarion3 this week! I barely was able to get online with first week of school and my moms group and book club.. .etc...

These are the AWESOME nature themed pieces that were sent to me!

I love them all! I really love the pressed imprints of the wild flowers though! And in a little note she told me how to do it myself! Thank you so very much for these!

Sorry I have been so quiet I just had the busiest week of my life! I am so relaxed after finally being able to sleep last night and am looking forward to a great Saturday of crafting while my husband watches college football today!

29  Journal Pages of Hope in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by CraftyMamaBee on: July 03, 2013 06:58:53 AM
I am hoping this is the right location for this. In February a friend's mom went through a horrible medical ordeal. We almost lost her and there was a couple comas... she is now on a very slow journey of recovery and having to relearn EVERYTHING! My friend is traveling to visit her next week and asked all of her crafty friends if they would make a 8x10" picture of encouragement and hope for her. She will compile all the pages in an art journal for her mother.

It took me a couple days to fully complete my page and here is the completed project:

Everything was sewn on to the ivory cardstock backing. This will make is easier to glue my page into the journal.

I used a lighter and distress inks on the burlap and scraps of fabric and freezer paper stencils for the branch and the word, "Hope". I found a scrap of printer fabric for the lettering of the quote. And bird feathers for the birds tail feathers.

I am hoping to finish a memory style quilt before she leaves and one more journal page..... here's hoping! I hope you enjoyed!

30  Lalaloopsy Cinder Slippers Name Badge in Quilting: Completed Projects by CraftyMamaBee on: May 29, 2013 09:05:49 PM
So for my monthly quilt guild meeting we all have made our own name badges. I had made a very simple one and thought it was time to make a better one.... that included my love of Lalaloopsy! Also on the back I attached a piece of vinyl so that I could keep a few dollars or my business cards for at the meetings!

The chain is attached with lobster claw clasps so I could always change them out in the future!

This was the very first time I tried free motion quilting... and boy have I been missing out! I don't know if I'll quilt any other way!
