Rushing to the last minutes before snitch is caught!

Challenge: Quidditch - Cheering/Spirit
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Hogwarts Houses United Bracelet
Brief Description: I started to do a Ravenclaw bracelet but words "Together we stand, divided we fall" kept repeating in my head. So instead I decided to do something that reflects the spirit of Hogwarts united! There's a charm in every house colours, Trevor the Toad, pumpkin, love, trust and faith and some phoenix tears that heal all wounds.

Sorry for crappy picture taken in haste...

Thanks to Pinkleo's genious challenges and Eiseldora's cheering I've managed to pull up some new projects!

Challenge: Quidditch - Beater
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Beater's Bludger Raviolis
Project Page Link: Here
Brief Description: I rarely cook so I decided to give it a go and make something special for my hun. These ugly little lumps tasted marvelous!

Challenge: Quidditch - Broomstick
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Broomstick pasta for whole Quidditch team (extra broom in case one flies into Whomping Willow)
Project Page Link: No link, leftover pasta from making ravioli.
Brief Description: After gently crafting all my ravioli I had some pasta dough still left, so I decided to have some fun and play with food. I made pasta broomsticks and dried them to use later. Think they should be served with meatball Bludgers and Quaffle sauce...

Here's a little how-to:

Challenge: Quidditch - Snitch
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Time is flying - Watch that Snitch!
Project Page Link: No link..
Brief Description: I had a wristwatch where watch was attached like a charm. I really liked that watch so naturally I managed to broke that after some time... Watch still works though, so I gave it wings! It will become necklace when I find appropriate chain for it. Material is brass, I expect it'll look great against all my turquoise shirts Wink

Fly high Ravenclaw!

3  Goatcheese & Wild Mushroom Ravioli PIC HEAVY! in Vegetarian / Vegan by aliis on: August 08, 2012 05:40:38 AM
Thanks to Pinkleo's Quidditch Beater Challenge, I'm trying something new: Foodcrafting! Those who know me better also know to duck and cover at this point since I very rarely cook and my specialty is frozen pizza. Seriously, I'm a mess in kitchen and have not enough patience to follow recipes. But I wanted to surprice my darling with a meal so here we go...

Recipe is from this great Finnish food blog called Pastanjauhantaa (that name is also a really funny pun but impossible to translate Cheesy).

Here are the weapons of choice:

100g Durum wheat flours PER EGG
2-3 eggs (don't be fooled by number in picture above, I didn't use all of them)
1 onion
2dl wild (forbidden)forest mushrooms
rocket salad (or arugula or rucola according to your native language)
soft goat cheese
some olive oil
teeny bit of water

First make pasta dough. Measure flours (100g/egg) in bowl and make hole in the middle where you pour eggs. I used 300g of flour and 3 eggs which was sufficient for ravioli for 3 persons plus some extra playing with food. Maybe 200g + 2 eggs would be enough next time...

Beat (Beater challenge, see!  Grin) dough until it's firm lump (or use food mixer if you are rich and lazy). If it feels too dry, add just teeny bit of water (couple of tablespoons would be enough). Wrap your dough in a plastic wrap and put it into fridge to rest for a bit.

Meanwhile prepare mushrooms. If you have fresh wild self picked mushrooms, good for you! I'm a city girl so I had to settle for salted ones picked from supermarket. Remember to rinse salted ones, I had these beautifully illustrated how-to instructions at top of mushroom packing.

Chop onion and fry with olive oil and mushrooms until... well, fried. Add bunch of rocket/arugula/rucola and fry a bit more. I also added some dried basilica (would had used fresh one but cat ate that last week... Roll Eyes).

Now, take out your pasta dough and roll it into 1mm thick sheet. If you don't know how to use your own pasta machine you're beyond my help. If you're using rolling pin, good luck with that!

Now to crafty part! I made some really ugly lumps until I figured out how this is supposed to be done. Cut your pasta sheet into squares.

Add a lump of goat cheese and some of mushroom mixture in the middle of each square. Moist edges (with water, obviously).

Pinch opposite corners together...

...and continue pinching along the rest of edges.

If you need to store your ravioli, say, until your darling gets home, sprinkle them well with flour (to avoid them all stucking together) and keep in fridge.

When you're ready eat these babies, add them into boiling water and cook for 3-4 minutes. Original blog post recommends white wine- or prawnsauce with them, but I had sweated enough in kitchen for one day! Some salad will have to do.

5  Garden Collection of Maille Bracelets in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by aliis on: August 02, 2012 09:06:43 AM
Have I mentioned I've been addicted to weaving maille? I just found this shop nearby that sells beautiful coloured wires, and recently I dug up some charms I bought from my trip to New York. Also my lil' sis visited London and brought me some more charms! So I got inspired to weave chains with different themes Grin These babies I have been growing due summer:

Forars kaede weave for someone with fiery temperament or lover of spicy food:

Living in Austria "Spargelzeit" was first sign of spring! Weave is Candycane cord.

Juicy grapes for wine! Sweetpea weave in purple and burgundy.

What is better in summer than slice of watermelon? Bysantine with extra cage from bigger rings.

This I named Wings of Dragonfly, because wire colours match so perfectly with charm! Also my first Half-persian 1-4.

Pea in pod or just really sweety pea? Weave name is sweetpea, so I couldn't resist... Wink

So I'm back to civilized internet connections. Backstory behind this tiny thing: Naantje told me she liked that Zelda hearth container pendant I made last winter so I tried to create something similar to her. She also had listed snitch as one of favorite items and revealed that she had this one special occasion coming up. All this lead me to craft her a filigree snitch pendant that opens, so she can put some precious memento in there. Text in it's side says "I open for memories". I also wove JPL chain in her house colours (Slytherin) to prevent that snitch flying off... Grin

Material is plated copper, amount of nicks and scratches: unbearable Roll Eyes Here's a few pics I took before sending:

I received my OTT ages ago! I've just been so crappy partner that I haven't come up with pictures until now Embarrassed

I wished for something useful and mentioned I would appreciate embroidery and Naantje pulled that all together to craft this beautiful and awesome item for me! She even picked one of my favorite colours!

So what is this thing...?

There's some spells on the other side... I'll try that last one!

Now who can say that isn't useful? No-one? Yep! Here is one more closeup of that gorgeous hippogriff embroidery.

Thank you Naantje! You ROCK!

8  Re: OTHPT3 aka One Tiny Harry Potter Thing Round 3 ~SUs Closed~SOs June 30~ in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by aliis on: June 30, 2012 02:16:14 PM
I didn't think I was going to finish on time but I did 129 individual crafted items, painting, drawing, sewing, sculpting. gluing, cutting and writing- and yes- 4"x 4" or less- I really thought I had taken on too much, but it was too good of an idea to not make-- I just hope my partner likes it as much as I do

129! Shocked Wow. Can't wait to see that one...

I need to take few extra days too but here's a progress photo teaser to Naantje (because I'm cruel person Wink)

Ooo those Slytherin PJ's are awesome!

Here's my house pride for Ravenclaw:

Project Name: Ravenclaw maille necklace
Project Page Link: Maille jewellery in Hogwarts house colours
Brief Description: Various maille weaves combining different house colours. I made Ravenclaw JPL5 neclace for myself, Slytherin JPL tiepin for my hun and Gryffindor Byzantine bracelet for lil' sis. All tutorials were found in Maille Artisans International League's webpage.

10  Maille jewellery in Hogwarts house colours in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by aliis on: June 08, 2012 07:53:07 AM
Here's some more chainmaille, this time in colours!

I made bracelet in Gryffindor colours to my little sister (her birthday was in last month but I think it's never too late for presents). Weave is bysantine.

Next I started bracelet for myself. I replaced Ravenclaw bronze with copper, what do you think? I coiled too many links and soon it became a necklace... It was fun to do, weave is JPL 5. Since this is made from 23 gauge (0,6mm) wire, I got pounding headache every time I forgot to wear glasses while making this... Soo tinyyyy!

Last but not least is tiepin for my Slytherin husband. Cheesy I love that little owl (who finally found its place)! It's weave is JPL (=Jens Pind Lincage).

I'm getting for right mood for OTHPT3 swap! Grin Sorry Hufflepuffs, I don't have black wire at the moment (or Hufflepuff friends to whom I can donate my jewellery) so nothing in those colours... yet...
