1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crochet flowers on: July 29, 2011 01:30:19 PM
I've just started to learn to crochet and I'm wanting to make some flowers. I went on YouTube and found lots of videos that show you how to crochet flowers and when I made mine they didn't look like what they did in the video. I had some yarn called Jewel Box that is a purple with little green and blue strands twisted into it. It is a bit thick and slightly puffy. But, it has a pattern for a crocheted throw on it, so I assumed it would work to crochet. Does it make a difference what yarn you use to make crochet flowers or should what I'm using work fine? I know there's crochet thread, which would be best. But, I'm just wondering if what I'm using now should be able to work for making flowers and it's just me messing it up and not just the yarn not working well for flowers.
practise makes perfect so my mum told me while i was growing up
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Suggestions? on: July 29, 2011 01:27:40 PM
I've just finished my first crochet project, the newsboy hat that I posted in completed projects. Now I'm ready to start something new. I'm thinking about maybe starting something for my niece for Christmas. I was thinking I could get started now so I could have plenty of time in case I mess up and need to redo parts or something and in case I want to take a break and work on something else too. So, what are some suggestions for things to make for a 4 1/2 yr. old girl? I don't really think she'd wear crochet slippers, shoes, or boots. What else could I make her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
