1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: The Goldern Compass on: December 08, 2007 04:55:26 AM
I just saw the movie yesterday too....my 6 year old has asked me no less than 50x per day, for the past 2 weeks (since he saw the trailer at "The Bee Movie") if we could go to see the Golden Compass....every day, "are we going Mom, are we going, huh?  huh?Huh  So yesterday we were there, bright and early!!!! Grin

I LOVED the knits Lyra was wearing, all the wardrobes were good (Nicole Kidman looked great).  I especially liked the sweater Lyra had on when she went to meet the Ice Bear that she hired --- is that a Lion Brand pattern that you recognize?

Thanks everyone.....I'm really happy with the results --- they were all pretty easy....the green scarf was probably the hardest, because I knit it width wise....it is so much easier to knit just a few stitches lengthwise!

The wool was all various types -- some fun fur, eyelash, suede (lionbrand), patons divine, and other novelty yarns I had--- I can't even remember all the names.  I didn't sew the pieces together, just added the new yarn.  I did double strand most of it, to give it some structure --  and I just knit every row on super big needles -- 19mm --- they all knit up very fast! (the green scarf was size 9mm I think....a little slower to do!)

I've completed a bunch of new projects this past week, you can view them here

in my knitting folder.  The poncho, scarf and shawl were all inspired by the recent thread about the Ettie knitwear Jessica Simpson and other stars are wearing.  The poncho was weaving hell, but I love how it turned out.  I left some of the ends exposed, but it was still a pain to sew together etc.  The shawl was much easier, I haven't decided how much of the ends to weave in....I think I will leave some dangling, I'm not sure.

Comments are welcome!

Thanks for all the great ideas -- I think I will try using huge needles, and see what I accomplish from that -- maybe a drop stitch if that doesn't work.  Will post what I come up with!

I absolutely love all the scarves and wraps on this site

www.ettie.net

Any idea what a similar pattern to this might be?  I'd love to try making a scarf, but am horrible at looking at something and figuring out a pattern.  If I can do a scarf, a shawl would be my next step.
