1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / yo-yo crochet on: January 14, 2012 03:02:43 PM
Hey all! It has been a long while since I was last on. Medical issues kept me from crafting my little heart out, but things are looking up, and I am starting to crochet more!

I was wondering if some of you might be able to lend a helping hand.

I have been eyeing a design for some time, but can't afford to purchase this pattern book (darn medical bills) to help me with an idea I have been toying with. Now I am not asking anyone to purchase anything for me, etc...I just needed help with this technique that I can't seem to find anywhere on the inter-web.

This technique is yo-yos. I was considering trying something new with my scrap yarn in order to create something completely different than what you normally see.

I have found some techniques that require a person to make tons of yoyos, and then stitch them all together...but I have heard that one can make yo-yos in one piece to save time.

Is there anyone that can share where I can find out how to do this? It's much appreciated!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP! on: October 18, 2011 04:19:18 AM
My Oma had used all the yarn she had of the started project, and it was used with a different yarn than the mohair. The only thing I could really do is cast it off the needle...and I think with the needles and project attached would make a good personal memento in a shadow box of some sort.

The idea of a little heart is a good start. Maybe in a nice small picture frame with a nice matte background?

All your help is appreciated!

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / HELP! on: October 17, 2011 05:31:53 PM
I was recently gifted with an heirloom basket with an unfinished project my late Oma (German for Grandmother) had started while she was sick and in Chemo. I hope to take her unfinished project with her knitting needles and put them in a memento shadow box in memory of her.

My question that I pose to my fellow knitters and crocheters:

Also inside of this basket that I received of my Oma's was a large ball of magenta mohair fingering yarn. I wanted to make a little memento with this yarn for all of the women in my family, but I am not sure of what to make. I only have a limited amount of yarn, and 7 women to make mementos for.

Can anyone think of something that would be just as special as the person who passed it down to me?

Thank you all for your help!

Ericka

That is super awesome! If I didn't have so many projects going on, I would work on something like this to take with me to PAX East next spring!

That is super beautiful! I love how the color fades like a real rainbow of colors! I have always wondered it it was a style thing on how colors are chosen or what...but you definitely have skills!

That is such a creative idea! Most of my hooks are basic Boye aluminum hooks. Would those work as well, even if they are a colored aluminum? Or would the steel hooks be preferred? I am just wondering because I would hate for my hooks to be ruined, let alone explode in my oven....

I like to base my cozies on the button. Try to do more than one color, or it will turn out too boring. Have fun!
