21  Re: 4x6 Art Swap Rd 7 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by BigBangMomma on: February 03, 2014 01:56:00 PM
I received today from both my partners--KittyHerman and kwality570!  Both pieces are so amazingly beautiful! I can't wait to frame them and hang them up!!

I have two partners because KittyHerman's check in got lost in my inbox  (two swaps with check in/send out days back to back) and so I thought I had to drop her from the swap. Then, I posted partners, and she reminded me that she did in fact check in. I felt awful! She we agreed that since luckily I had a second piece already made, and it was entirely my error, I'd add her back to the swap, and we'd send to each other.  The two pieces I had made are completely different from one another, so when she receives, I hope she likes it.

So, Kitty Herman's piece is the panda on top, and she's called it "Don't Worry, Be Happy."  I love love love him!!

I've been ogling kwality570s monsters every chance I get, and we've yet to be partnered together. So, I knew I had to take the chance while I had it to receive one of her adorable monsters. I love it. So pretty!!

Thank you so much ladies!

22  Re: One Tiny Surprise Thing Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by BigBangMomma on: February 01, 2014 08:34:25 AM
I received today from Plastic Platypus!  She sent me my very own lucky Dragon Ball which represents success, growth, and the universe. She said they embody a powerful mystical force manifested on a physical plane.  Inside are token which represent material abundance, protection, love, and a key to unlock whatever keeps me from growth and abundance.   I had never heard of these before, so it was so great that PP included such a wonderful detailed note.

Now for the picture:

Thank you so much!!

24  Queen Sized Striped Blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: January 16, 2014 05:52:00 AM

I posted towards the end of last year a blanket I made with the same design and similar colors. That one was a Christmas gift. My husband and I loved it so much that we decided I must make another one.

So, we changed to brown from gray, and kept the other colors the same.  We went from Super Bulky to Lion's Brand Jiffy Bulky yarn. I used about 20 skeins! It measures about 100"x100". For reference, a quick search on Google shows that a queen blanket measures 90"x90".  I was getting pretty quick (when I didn't have to pull out a row or two for not finishing my "v" stitch) that I was getting about 7 rows completed in about 2 hours, or about a row every 20-30 min or so.

So....it repeats 7 rows blue, 3 rows white, 4 rows brown, 3 rows white, 7 rows blue....... all "v" stitch.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the lighting. When I use flash in my room, it distorts the color. When I turn the flash off, then the pictures are dark. I really need to learn the setting on my dslr to help combat that.

Thanks so much for looking!

25  The Northern Lights in perler beads in Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: January 12, 2014 12:33:43 PM
I've recently been playing with perler beads with my 8 year old daughter, and I've been wanting to make something that was Northern Lights. So...I thought, why not perler bead Northern Lights and  winter cabin?  This is my first attempt at free-handing and I've only made possibly a handful of these before. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Take  a look. Thanks!

This is actually the back side. I'm still getting the hang of fusing them together, and I like how this side turned out better.

You will have a 3 week crafting time after sign ups as well to make the craft to the best of your ability.  Your craft must follow the guidelines of a tiny crafted item, being no more than 4x4x4. You can create a paper craft, a yarn craft, a clay craft, jewelry craft, etc, anything you want to, as long as it is ONE TINY THING.    You will have no idea who your partner is, until "Address Time", which will be at the end of the crafting period.  And then you will only know their Address and proper name.  I will do my best to match up partners based upon allergy restrictions and craft wishes, but please remember that this is essentially a "surprise" swap so no information other than a real name and address will be sent out to you. The fun and purpose of the swap is receiving a completely random craft in the mail!

Swap Rules:
~ Please post in the thread BEFORE signing up so you should receive updates on this swap. Posting a minimum of once a week is a requirement of this swap. I reserve the right to deny participation to swappers with a history of poor communication and very late sending.  Updates and reminders will only be posted in the thread, so keep an eye out for the Organizer note headline.

~ DC# confirmation is required for all senders in the USA.  Willingness to ship internationally is a requirement for this swap.  Keep in mind, you are crafting whatever suits YOUR INTEREST, so don't let cost detour you from signing up. If you craft something lightweight and relatively flat, even if your partner is international, it should be relatively low-cost to ship. You may include a (please, N.America only, or, Please not to Australia) etc, and I will do my best to take that into consideration

~  You are to send Only ONE TINY THING to your partner. NO EXTRAS.

27  Secret Service CIA Snowman and Totoro in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: December 16, 2013 09:05:55 AM

I decided to play with my small supply of polymer clay today, and created these little guys. Since I don't have orange, and the black on white was looking a little spy-ish to me, I decided to deck out my snowman as a secret service CIA agent with a badge and scarf. He needed a buddy, so I put together a mini Totoro to hang out with him.

Thanks for looking!

28  Super Bulky Striped Blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: December 11, 2013 08:12:19 AM

I've been the blanket queen this year. This is my 4th crochet blanket for the year, and was originally going to be for my brother for Christmas. But, once I started putting the colors together, I realized it would be better suited for my husband's grandparents.  Although, truth be told, I love it and want to keep it.  I will be making another, for sure!

I did seven rows of the blue (it's just the "v" stitch across), then 2 rows of white, then 3 rows of grey, then 2 rows of white, and repeat. I repeated 5x.

And, here's a close up of the stitch work:

I'm now obsessed with this pattern, and the endless ways to do different colors and stripe patterns. And it's easier, for me, than the ripple design.

29  Totoro Pillow Pet in Crochet: Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: December 11, 2013 07:59:42 AM

My partner in the secret santa '13 swap is a big fan of Totoro (like many of you are!) and asked for an amigurimi. I originally was going to create for her a Totoro amigurimi, but then, later down her list, she had asked for a pillow pet, so I thought it would be fun  to change the amigurimi design into a pillow pet. The top picture is Totoro as a pillow, the bottom, as a pet!  I created a button hole and a little button as the closure to the pillow pet. It was so fun, and inspired a friend to ask me to make some  Totoro purses for her daughters. I am working on them, and will post those in another thread. Thanks for looking!

30  Nesting Pineapples and Four Pineapple Center PIece (updated) in Crochet: Completed Projects by BigBangMomma on: December 11, 2013 07:49:13 AM

Many many months after completing this pineapple bordered afghan my husband was wondering how large a single pineapple would be with super bulky yarn, which I've been using a lot of lately.  The answer. About 12 inches using my 15mm hook.

Then, I pulled out some hand spun yarn I had received from a craft swap a while back, and made my medium sized pineapple, using a 5 mm hook. It works out to about 6 inches.

Then, hubby and I wondered how small it would be with thread yarn, so I pulled out some size 3, whipped up the smallest one, with my 1.80 mm hook, and it measures 3".

I completed four blue pineapples, added  a slight variation to a granny square in the middle to connect them, and voila! Here's a pretty pineapple centerpiece!

I just wanted to share because I thought it was fun.  Thanks for looking!
