1  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Hamster cage shelving unit on: August 24, 2009 11:04:02 AM
My cat Phoenix managed to knock one of my roborovski hamster's cage off the dresser on Friday, so this weekend my boyfriend Matt and his parents endeavored to make a shelving unit that would allow the hamsters to be visible yet inaccessible to my cat.  I think it's cat-proof, but we shall see when I bring him home this evening.

The hamsters are all moved in to their new cages. Ender, the one who was almost killed on Friday, is on the top.  Bean, the one we just moved into his new cage this morning, is on the bottom.  (FYI, each cage consists of two small units connected together with tubes and attachments.)

Close-up of the doors.  The top one swings up, the second door opens downwards.  They close on the sides.

The whole unit before the hamster cages were in their final set-up.

It took a lot of time and money, but I am so pleased with it!

Details:
-Graco baby changing table
-Attached plastic mesh to the sides with staples
-Made doors out of poplar frames, mesh, brass joiners in the corners, hinges, hook and eye latches on the sides and brass handles
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Magknits Sesame sweater question on: November 19, 2006 06:42:28 PM
I just finished decreasing one stitch at the end of every alternate row 10 times, and I'm supposed to have 78 stitches on the needle, but I have 88.  I'm now supposed to work even until the armhole measures 7.75 inches, but I have too many stitches.  I started the decreasing with 108 stitches.

Anyone else have this problem?  Is there errata for this pattern or did I misread something?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Half Circle Skirt Fabric Question on: July 29, 2006 03:46:01 PM
Hello everyone. I have a Half Circle skirt pattern and it calls for fabric cut on the diagonal.  This worked out fine with the fabric of the one skirt I made, but the design of the other two fabrics I want to make skirts out of are horizontally printed and would look terrible on a slant.

What would happen if I didn't cut on the fabric on the bias?  Is there anything I can do if I want to use this pattern with that fabric?  This will be my second time sewing a skirt, so I'm not too saavy yet.

Thanks!
4  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Toy-along? on: December 15, 2005 09:50:52 PM
Would anyone be interested in a knitted toy along after the holidays?  I'm currently obsessed with cute stuffed toys (namely, everything from Jess Hutchison's new booklet) and I also just bought some amigurimi patterns off the internet, though that's crochet, and not relevant to this forum.  I also want to knit Bubby and Kate from Knitty... So, who's game?   I'd love to see everyone's cute creations!

(Yes, I'm 23 and I like stuffed animals, what can I say?)
