1  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Hudson River Mosaic on: July 07, 2011 11:21:08 AM

This is a mosaic that seven seniors in Vassar College's Environmental Studies department completed as part of the ENST tradition to collaborate on a project to enrich the campus environment.

The mosaic is four feet by four feet and celebrates the Hudson River (Poughkeepsie NYs drinking water source, treated of course).  It took a LONGGG time. we cracked the tiles and stones and laid them out over a large picture, then we transferred the tiles to some MDF and cemented them down.  We used some painters tape so that we wouldn't have to transfer one tile at a time.  Then we grouted it and hung it in our College's library above a prominent drinking fountain.  To mount it we used what's called a "french cleat."

Were happy to leave behind a reminder of all the resources we were blessed with during our time at Vassar.  Plus, besides being committed to the environmental message of the project, we are excited about the opportunity to encourage more public and student art on campus.  Let us know what you think!
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / recovered tissue box and jewelry box on: July 06, 2011 05:28:47 PM

tissue box.  I recovered a cheap plastic box with paper and some sea shells.

I recovered an old tea box with images from a book I had on "tall tale postcards."  I've done a lot of mod podge projects, but I think this one turned out the best
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / teal scarf (first knitting project) on: July 06, 2011 05:20:38 PM

A scarf for my mom.  I took a shawl pattern I found and flipped it around.  It was pretty easy, just a lot of slip stitching and adding stitches on.
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Rocky Raccoon on: July 06, 2011 05:03:55 PM

I made Mr. Raccoon last year for my best friend's birthday.  He took a long time and his head doesn't quite stay upright, but he is very cuddle-able.
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / rag rug! on: July 06, 2011 04:50:53 PM

rag rug for my bathroom.  I took a hot glue gun to the bottom side to help it from slipping.

I made this octopus pincushion out of felt scraps.  I started with the tentacles, then did the legs, then the lower body, and finally made the head by wrapping some felt around a ball of cotton and whip stitching it to the base.  This is my first post! Thanks for looking.
