This is a mosaic that seven seniors in Vassar College's Environmental Studies department completed as part of the ENST tradition to collaborate on a project to enrich the campus environment.
The mosaic is four feet by four feet and celebrates the Hudson River (Poughkeepsie NY’s drinking water source, treated of course). It took a LONGGG time. we cracked the tiles and stones and laid them out over a large picture, then we transferred the tiles to some MDF and cemented them down. We used some painters tape so that we wouldn't have to transfer one tile at a time. Then we grouted it and hung it in our College's library above a prominent drinking fountain. To mount it we used what's called a "french cleat."

We’re happy to leave behind a reminder of all the resources we were blessed with during our time at Vassar. Plus, besides being committed to the environmental message of the project, we are excited about the opportunity to encourage more public and student art on campus. Let us know what you think!
