31  Doctor Hoo in Needlework: Completed Projects by nisforneville on: October 23, 2011 09:39:25 AM
The Eleventh Doctor in owl form, inspired by the Threadless t-shirt.

I bought an owl pattern kit from an etsy seller and made a few changes/added some extras. This is my first time cross-stitching in years, so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Finally got around to making mine. I couldn't get great pics with the candles in, but this gives you an idea anyway...

So easy and fun to make!

33  TARDIS bird house made from recyled juice box in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects by nisforneville on: October 08, 2011 01:55:57 PM
I made this using a tutorial from the TV show Blue Peter, but I can't seem to find the pattern online anymore.

I've yet to actually put it up. I'm afraid the rain will ruin it. Anyone know if there's a product I can seal it with that would be bird-friendly?

35  my first pair of knit socks in Knitting: Completed Projects by nisforneville on: October 08, 2011 01:34:09 PM
I didn't do any sort of special pattern, since I'm not an experienced knitter and it was my first pair, but I did choose a self-patterning yarn, which I think turned out pretty well. I made these for indigo_roses in the Random Swap.

The part that looks narrow is where the heel is. I couldn't find a good way to photograph them without putting them on, and since they weren't for me, I didn't want to try them on, haha.

36  Harry Potter wands made out of paper in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by nisforneville on: October 07, 2011 04:33:02 PM
I used this tutorial to make a bunch of wands using a sheet of paper, a glue gun, and paint. http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-awesome-Harry-Potter-wand-from-a-sheet-of-/ Since my swap partner has received her package, I can now post pictures.

In progress pictures:

I used painter's tape to hold the paper together while the glue dried.

After getting decorated with a hot glue gun & a base coat of white paint:

More finished pictures:

I used a gold paint pen to do the accents & sealed them all with decoupage.

37  crochet pet beds in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by nisforneville on: October 06, 2011 10:09:11 AM
I've made quite a few beds lately. The first two were made for my co-worker's dogs.

The rest I plan to donate to my local animal shelter.

Obviously I had to experiment to find the best way to make the sides sturdier. Using 2 strands of yarn at the same time works best. I figure the cats/dogs don't care so much about that, at least.

And this last one is made out of a pair of flannel pjs and a fleece shirt.

Got my package from indigo_roses today and it's full of awesome! You can see the packaging with the stamped wrapping paper a few posts back. It's all Halloween/autumn stamped, which is awesome, because I love Halloween!

Okay, on with the random swap pictures!

Halloween clothespin sign. That's my dog. His favorite hobby is looking out windows. Smiley

Crocheted TARDIS (Doctor Who), which is now on my bookcase. It's supported by cardboard on the inside, so it's really sturdy & square.

Carved stamps! The adipose (fat baby) is so cute. They're all so detailed. I'm totally impressed.

Cute decorated note cards. I didn't take pictures of the envelopes, but she sent those too. Smiley

Slytherin colors lapghan. I love the offset squares!

And embroidery hoops as extras, since my Wal-mart no longer carries them and I don't have a craft store. I will have to come up with something awesome to do to thank her for them.  Grin

Hope I didn't forget anything! Hers was sent today, so hopefully she'll get it Friday or Saturday.

Oh, the teaser pic. I love the wrapping! Can't wait to see what is inside! Here is a teaser pic (only a few items in their homemade giftbags) for you, indigo_roses!

Also, I love the Firefly cross stitch!

40  Tootsie Roll flowers cupcakes in Dessert by nisforneville on: July 18, 2011 11:20:16 AM
We had a royal wedding party the weekend that Prince William and Kate got married, because my mom won a party kit from somewhere... Anyway, she wanted to order cupcakes that looked like mini wedding cakes and I said, "No way! I'll make them myself!"

The cake part is strawberry cake with crushed fresh strawberries & strawberry Jell-O added to a strawberry cake mix, if you're wondering. Smiley

I got the idea for making flowers out of candy from the book What's New Cupcake? (that I got for free from a certain website where I had accumulated points for rating music... yay free stuff!). I had bought a bag of flavored Tootsie Rolls and decided to try them for the flowers. They turned out pretty good in my opinion.

The cupcake stand was even free, since a friend bought it and never used it. (Can you tell I like free stuff?)

To make the Tootsie Rolls into flowers, I heated them in the microwave for 5-10 seconds, then used a rolling pin to roll them out into an oval shape. I cut off the top and bottom of each oval to make "petals" and rolled up the part that was left to make the inside of the flower. Pretty simple once I got the hang of it.

To make the leaves, I cut up the green Tootsie Rolls into 3 or 4 pieces and rolled them out. The flowers held up better than the "leaves." Our house was hot & humid from all of the cooking we did, so they kind of melted.
