I try to start out with nice quality shirts and then come up with the designs. That way if the only soft shirts I can find are certain colors or stripes I can design around them.
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How do I make this Nursing/Maternity/Cover/Poncho Thing? on: April 07, 2011 03:49:31 PM

I really want one of these but $60 seems a bit too rich for what looks like essentially a poncho made out of light jersey knit. Anybody want to venture a guess about how to make one? How much fabric I'd need? Basic shape and where the seams would go? I'm kinda blanking, it looks like it might be deceptively simple... What do you guys think? (crude drawings encouraged please! lol!)

Finished and sent! Now I can try and reclaim my craft room from tiny scraps of felt and fabric and start tackling a long list of sewing projects I want to get done before the baby is born. (I've got anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks left!)

I received from StacySews this weekend and I posted pictures in the gallery today!

I have 1 1/2 done but I got kind of a good idea for number three while driving home today, now if only I could remember what it was!

I received from StacySews this weekend but today is the first chance I've gotten to post them! They're so adorable!
First, bunny and a fishbowl!

Close up of the awesome fishbowl! (This was so clever!)

Hippo and matching burp cloth! Right from my wists

A sleeper and a foil heart. So cute!

And a stuffed peep and some real peep treats for my older child (my almost-three-year-old)

Thank you so much, StacySews! We love them all!
28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Nursing/Maternity Top Pattern by AMH on: March 29, 2011 05:51:29 PM

I made the "Four Corners Blouse" from Anna Maria Horner's "Handmade Beginnings" a few weeks ago! I added four inches to the length since all the write ups about making this blouse online said it was on the short side and I wanted to wear it while pregnant as well as after for nursing.

It's a wonderful pattern! I'm actually planning on making another one so I have one to wear while the other is in the wash!

You can read a very wordy write-up about making it here. (For tips on lengthening, etc.)

So sorry to hear about your little guy, tapestry! Praying for a quick recovery for your little one!

Woot woot! Yay barbolot for joining the bump squad! I've been praying for you and your little one every time I think about you! When is your EDD?!

I'm back home in my own house with TWO and a HALF FEET of snow on the ground! But our power is back on and no trees fell on our house or vehicle so we're good to go! I can get back to sewing! Starting on my partner's shirts today as well as finishing up something for the stingray in my own belly. (Who is nudging my ribs occasionally, a reassuring discomfort as I know that means he/she's still head down!)

I was planning on starting this weekend then we got THREE MORE FEET OF SNOW and my family and I had to high tail it out of my neighborhood. The next day the two roads into our neighborhood were closed due to snow, fallen trees and dangling power lines so we couldn't even go home even if we wanted to. We're refugees of the snow and power outages at my parents house this weekend. I actually had to go buy clothes because we did not expect to be kept from going back home after we left and I didn't pack enough! Our power is still out at our house and I am glad we're not there as I am TOO pregnant to be dealing with 3 feet of snow and power outages at the end of March!
