11  Tiered Mori girl skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by cloudsnapper on: January 10, 2012 08:19:48 PM
I finished this skirt yesterday.

Pardon the allergies face. Also, I was trying to demonstrate how to make my camera zoom.

It's a simple tiered skirt made from a pattern in a Japanese sewing book called Winter Clothing in One Day. I'm going to use it for daily wear and to get a Mori Girl look.

The underwear are really cute!
I finished this last night. Pardon the allergy face.

I was trying to show my husband how to zoom the camera.
But, a simple tiered skirt with lace trim. I got the pattern from a Japanese sewing book. I can see myself wearing it pretty often.

13  Re: Polar fleece for cloth pads? in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by cloudsnapper on: January 08, 2012 08:46:45 AM
Thanks for the responses! I ended up making some with quilting cotton on the top, 2 layers of cotton batting on the inside, and PUL diaper cloth on the botton. They ended up pretty good, the galaxy in my underwear, lol.
I think these will both hide stains and let me know when they're clean when I'm washing them, because of the color pattern. I don't like the shape I used for these so I think I'll make some with a different shape.
So easy to do though!

I made some cloth pads today. I don't know if it counts as destash, because I had to buy some waterproof fabric to back them. But I made them with fabric and cotton batting I already had.

Pretty neat, I think. The galaxy in my underwear, lol. I don't think they'll look stained because of the color pattern.
I'll probably make more but with a different pattern. I don't like how the wings barely meet at the middle. I think longer ones will be better.

Details of swap:

Sometimes people get very elaborate with their swaps, very tricksy and elaborate. That's really awesome! But in this swap, we're sticking to the simple things. No fancy techniques here! This is for simple and easy items, something you could make while watching TV (if that's your thing.)
Things like garter stitch scarves in a cuddly yarn, granny square items, soft crochet hats, simple sewn items. The easy stuff.
That doesn't mean that you don't need to craft to your best ability on everything you make. Make sure you try the best even though it's simple and use nice materials, not specifically expensive materials, but nice ones you'd like to use for projects for yourself.
This is a 3-point swap, so either one large item, a medium and a small, or 3 small items.

I completed my first project of 2012! It's 2 things, but they're pretty small so I'll only count them as 1.

The red one is to pin to my coat (as you can see,) and the brownish one is made of scraps from my failed attempt to make a dress. I'm going to make a skirt of the extra fabric, though, so this'll match it. The button on it is actually a lighter tortoiseshell color but the camera made it darker looking.
Yay, my first completed!

18  Fabric selection help for Japanese pattern in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by cloudsnapper on: January 01, 2012 11:21:03 AM
I have a skirt I want to make, but I'm afraid the fabric I picked for it is inappropriate. It's this skirt:

It's a cute simple skirt. I thought it would be good to get a wool blend for it to be a natural looking skirt. I ended up picking up this fabric.

But the more I look at it, the more I think it wouldn't work. It looks more like some kind of suit fabric to me than a natural cute look. It's pretty loosely woven so I don't know if I could sew it properly in the shape it needs to be, it needs elastic channels.
It's pretty much made of 2 sets of rectangles one tube gathered into a short tube that's gathered with elastic.

I really want this to work because I've already failed at one of the patterns in this book, the one on the cover. Or it could be that it was a bad pattern. Idk. I have a little more bust than the model for the one I made that was terrible:

But do you think the fabric will work for the pattern, and also for the look I'm going for? Thanks for the help!

19  Re: Jar of Stars Gallery - send outs extended to 12/13/2011 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by cloudsnapper on: December 16, 2011 05:03:24 PM
Everyone's stars are so cool and different! I love it!
I received 2 sets of stars, one yesterday and one today. I'm terrible, because I don't know who sent the first set.

And this is from the same person, it just fell down when I took the picture.

Those stars are really great! I like how they're all different, from a spinny origami one to a wire one with wrappings.

Then, today I got my stars from Ashgrim.

They're really great, too! One with my initial on it, even! Sadly, the purple one with the small star suspended in it broke in transit, but the glue's drying on it and it's going to make a perfect recovery Smiley

Thanks so much! This swap is really fun!

20  Re: Ongoing inchie swap (OIS) gallery AND discussion in The Swap Gallery by cloudsnapper on: December 10, 2011 08:11:44 AM
I got Pioneer9's monster inchies in the mail yesterday. They must have gotten mislaid by the postal service, but it was worth the wait!
I actually framed them before I remembered to take a picture. But I think I got them to come out right.

And just for an extra, here's the tea and flowers inchies I got framed.

Don't worry about the unframed ones! It's not that I don't like them, I just picked the 6 ones with colors that balanced each other best for the frames. I'm keeping the others in my "inchie organizer," an embroidery floss organizer that's like ziplock bags on a binder ring, for later use. I look forward to filling the organizer!
The frame is just the inches measured out and sticky-tacked onto sparkly scrapbooking cardstock in cheap Dollar General frames that I spray-painted brown. They look awesome in my library.
