21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: "Spirit of Christmas" swap? on: November 16, 2006 08:14:26 AM
I'm in for this.

The 4 small things idea definitely has some potential, and would probably attract more participants.

Bloo, you come up with the greatest swap ideas ever!

I'm so glad my partners are happy!  You both have been wonderful.

Bloocanoe, I'll happily be your friend, but I'm temporarily out of spinning commission due to an unfortunate exacto knife injury. (I've been forced to teach myself how to knit lefthanded in the last couple of days and my brain is still hurting from it.)

FINALLY! Pictures!

Lamamarco, I didn't think you were being rude in the least.  I was just frustrated that I couldn't find my stupid camera.  But she has been found!  And I have pictures!

(Please excuse the exclamation points.  I have the day off and I'm a bit excited about it.)

First, two headbands, a cute tiny card, NINE adorable buttons, and a darling pair of beaded earrings.

My brand new needle roll closed.

Needle roll opened.  (Note the stylin' green chalkboard with cursive letter practice fabric.  aka the best fabric ever.)

Thanks again for the fabulous package.

This swap has been wonderful.

lamamarco, my camera is MISSING!!  I don't have to work tomorrow, so I'm sure it will turn up in my top-to-bottom housecleaning mission.  I will definitely post pics tomorrow!

p.s. The stuff I received is AMAZING and must be photographed asap so that everyone else can know of lamamarco's immense talent!

TheBon, those colors are gorgeous.  I'll have to look for those neon food dyes.

Is anyone else having crazy thoughts of spinning and/or dyeing their own yarn for this project, or is that just me?

I'm present and accounted for.

Finished crafting for one person, 75% of the way there for the second.  Will mail when both packages are complete.  (Hopefully early next week sometime.)

Does anyone have any thoughts yet on a suitable substitute for the financially-challenged among us?  (There's no way I can go for the recommended yarn on my dazzlingly low non-profit salary.)

I've ruled out Palette due to limited colors.  How about Nature Spun Fingering?  Has anyone ever used this yarn before?

The Deep V wouldn't be a bad place to start, but it is time-consuming.  (Or at least it was for me.)

Other suggestions:
1. The "Fairly Easy Fair Isle" from SNB Nation.

2. The "We Call Them Pirates" hat from Hello Yarn: http://www.helloyarn.com/wecallthempirates.htm

3. Some of the hats in the "Cover Your Ears" patterns from Interweave are Fair Isle: http://www.interweave.com/knit/projects/hats.asp

4. If you scroll down to #27, there is a Fair Isle bandeau: http://www.knitscene.com/2005/projects.asp

Hope those help!
