I think it might be nifty if we could upload straight onto a post. maybe just have the pics be backed up in folders elsewhere.

What did you do to keep from cutting your fingers? Anything special? I would love to do this a pair of old heels and some grape soda cans to decorate my hallway, but am really scared of cutting myself. I had that problem when I tried to make bangle bracelets with old rootbeer cans a few years ago and have avoided working with pop cans since. Great job!

well... i didn't use anything to protect my hands  Huh i'm pretty used to dealing with sharp objects from my art class, and i would just never touch the edges. i think it helps to use an exacto knife to cut the top and bottom off, and then use a pair of scissors to cut the rough edges. i would definetly try to pattern how you're going to cover your heels so that you can just cut the pieces of can, good luck with your project! hope this helps

I would think this would be hella uncomfortable. Are you able to move around in it/ sit down while wearing it?
it's actualy more comfortable than a lot of my clothes, and the chain maile set-up makes it really flexable

What an amazing skirt! You did a seriously nice job. Is it okay if I ask how you crocheted pop tabs together?

yeah, it was actually similar to a chainmaile pattern, overlapping the tabs in groups of four, two back end, and two front ones, but you use the poptabs instead, and instead of looping the tabs with wire, you single stich twice in each group of four, and go across in rows.

Did you hand sew them?

i had to us push pins to make the holes, then hand stiched through, pretty time consuming, but totally worth it  Wink

that is so amazing! could you possibly post a tutorial?

Wow! Perhaps to make them more wearable you could do only the toes and heels and maybe use the plastic wrappers from 2L bottles for the sides?

But either way I think they're amazing.

Thanks, but the problem is actually that the toe doesn't bend enough, it's still technically wearable, just not walking shoes, i appreciate the input though  Smiley

Ahhh!! I love this! You did such a good job  Grin
I make and sell pop tab bracelets. I'm kinda obsessed with those metal things. You should see how much I've gotten my hands on. Lol.
I would love to try this sometime. I love how you paired it over leggings. Yay!
I've seen bags, clutches, skirts and belts made out of these and I want to try them all. Have you made anything else?

i actually have not made anything else, this was my first project with pop tabs, it was actually really fun, though time consuming, it took me about an hour per row and 22 rows. i definetly think you should try something like it   Cheesy

i've always wanted to try my hand at one of these projects, and i finally got around to it!
it's a chainmail set up, but i crochet them all together instead of using jump rings

 Grin thanks for looking

20  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / coke can shoes! on: April 29, 2012 04:19:21 PM

i obviously have no life, and decided to put all the coke's my mom drinks to use on some old canvas shoes i never wore

they're wearable, but the don't bend as much as necessary to walk comfortably
the pop tabs underneath are a work in process

questions and comments welcome Smiley
