I just started sewing a few days ago. I started with a simple dress, a few things for my baby (which turned out pretty horrible lol), then moved on to a pattern. That turned out rather badly also. So I decided to wing it and here is what I made.
I'm currently stationed in Iraq, and I have the smallest half of a room ever to live in. No iron, and very limited supplies- thank jebus for being able to order stuff online.
The bodice: I tried sewing snap buttons on the back, but it didn't work out so I'm waiting on a zipper to come in from joanns. I'm a little scared of the zipper, but I made sure to get a machine with a zipper foot, so my fingers are crossed. I suppose I will have to figure out how to alter it a bit to be more snug.
The skirt: I just took a huuuge rectangle and hand-stitched a loose running thread through it. I had planned on using a wide zig zag stitch over it, but I ended up getting weird loops of thread on the back stitch- any ideas on what that's about? Being impatient, I decided to pin over the running thread and sew a straight line. It ended up a bit shorter than I needed it, and I had to pull out some and try again.
Overall, I'm quite happy! I will wear this with a crinoline to make it flouncy. I'd also like to add something to make it less busy- maybe a sash/belt, or some piping? I'm scared of piping too though!
Thanks for looking
