I'm in Denver, CO.  I'm not familiar w/ Pamida either.

But look! here are easy recipes for DIY rootbeer and gingerale! i'm totally going to make these.

oh! we don't have that here. is it like (evil) Walmart, or a dollar store, or like Big Lots which sells overstock kind of stuff.  how much was it? maybe i'll do a google search for one.  or maybe i'll just search for DIY rootbeer recipes! how fun!
43  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: intarsia bunching on: July 07, 2005 02:46:50 PM
yes, thank you so much, starlings, for the help!

one more question. when you twist the two strand of yarn do you do just red over green and then knit or do you do red over and under (or over and around) green and then knit?

wow, i love it! i'd love to have one of those for my kids.

what is Shopko?  is that a US store?

thanks for that clarification, Starlings. I, too, have struggled w/ intarsia and had such poor results that i don't even want to do it now! maybe it's because i've floated the yarn across and either not wrapped the two colors enough or wrapped them too much.

so with this example, say you're doing many rows of green background, then start the red Xmas tree stump w/ red. you do five stitches of red w/ a red bobbin, then use a new green bobbin for the other side of the stump. when you turn and get back to the red, use that red bobbin. you use the red bobbin for the whole Xmas tree but you have two bobbins of green going. is that correct??

also when you attach the new color bobbin, do you just tie it on to the existing yarn w/ a square knot?

thanks in advance! i'd love to be able to do nice intarsia for my winter knitting projects!!
46  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Sock Monkey Swap on: July 07, 2005 09:23:57 AM
Poppet, Congrats on grad school!  I don't think I did any crafting during grad school except for crafting 20 page papers!  Tongue

ok, so we're looking for an organizer for this swap!! i would volunteer but am going to be out of town for a week and may not have email but will definitely take crafting supplies on my vacation.
47  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Sock Monkey Swap on: July 07, 2005 08:31:07 AM
who is going to formally organize this swap? let's get it going! i found a set of traditional red heeled sock monkey socks in my fabric stash so i'm itching to get a partner!

as for questions:  (nothing earth shattering here!)

1. what kind of monkey would you like to receive? any special requests?
2. what kind of monkey would you like to make?  (traditional, different kind of socks, etc)

i think having the option of signing up for either monkey for monkey swap or monkey and craft for monkey and craft sounds reasonable.  we would just need to make sure we have enough people to match up.

ok, i will try to post pix of my daughters in the sock monkey costume i made. both my 6 and 2.5 yr old girls have worn this costume and have gotten lots of compliments. i used the actual sock monkey socks. now i gotta get the pictures off my old computer...anyway, i like the idea of the swap and would vote for either a monkey or a craft, but will be OK w/ whatever the organizer decides.  i like the idea of matching people up who want specifically a monkey or specifically a craft.

BTW, i've bought my sock monkey socks at Army Navy surplus stores.

made a muslin, and it fit good,
wow, i'm impressed that you made a muslin! as in the whole dress!? i think i'm too impatient for that. maybe if i was making something really fancy/expensive like a wedding dress.
