i received from my awesome partner Viciouskittie today!! I absolutely love it!  I told her I wanted a Frida shrine and that's what I got!!  The pic doesn't do it justice. the entire front is hinged so you can open it up (and put stuff for Frida on the leopard print floor!). i didn't get a good angle on the camera but there are two cute skulls up at the top corners. and the big Frida in the middle is not flush w/ the back; she sticks out but it's hard to tell in the photo. anyway, i love it!!! thanks Viciouskittie - you were an awesome partner!!

the first monkey i made came from a tutorial found on the package of the red heeled socks that you buy to make an original sock monkey, but i believe you can find a tute online. i bought my socks at an Army-Navy Surplus store.

let me check.....

thanks for that reference Beppy! i'll check that book out.

i just got 25 wide mouth quart jars from a listing on Craigslist for $5 with new rings and lids! deal!! i'm so excited about making pickles since i've never done pickles. i think i'll make some peach jam too since our Colorado peaches are just arriving...i like the  idea of giving jam samplers for Xmas.

wow, i'm glad i found this string...i'm going to can hot pickles over Labor Day. made cherry jam over the 4th. the jam called for pectin which we (my neighbor and I ) used but we also made a cherry/pepper jam that did not have pectin. Both got cooked for about an hour or so but the pectin one definitely thickened and the pepper one did not. both taste wonderful! so what's the deal w/ using pectin? someone said something about a recipe that didn't use pectin (like that was a good thing). my mom canned a lot when i was a kid but i can't remember much about her recipes.

whoever has the pickled beans recipe, can you share? those sound delicious!

also, if anyone tries that salsa recipe, let us know how it works. it looks great.

wow, two more fabulous monkeys!!  i love both the pom pom monkey and Gary!! geez, now i'm worried my monkey that i sent kymporter will look a little bedraggled compared to those but the fun part of this is seeing how different the monkeys look!!

speaking of which, I got a wonderful monkey from sewmuch4kids today....it is just adorable.  the face is incredibly sweet on this monkey. i will post a picture tomorrow. i have another swap deadline on Sat and i'm a little overwhelmed right now!!! Shocked
