1  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / EXTERMINATE! Dalek amigurumi on: February 24, 2013 09:58:39 AM
Hello everyone!

I made this Doctor Who Dalek ami for lylmousy in the recent Geek Swap.

I used this pattern on ravelry as a jumping off point, and just modified a few things to make the dalek a bit bigger. If anyone is interested I can try to remember what modifications I made, but I don't think I have them written down anywhere.

Super excited to have completed my second ami!

With some of my hand for size reference:

Constructive criticism welcome, thanks for looking!  Grin
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Avatar Round 5/Legend of Korra Round 2? on: January 20, 2013 08:54:12 PM
Hey all!

Just wanted to see if there was any interest in a second round of Legend of Korra/Avatar round 5? Rumors have been going around that Legend of Korra season 2 might air in April, so if that is the case (which I really hope it is!!!) how about some goodies for the start? I know I had the best time last round, I can't get enough, and I want more!  Grin

Maybe signups end Jan/Feb and crafting from late Feb/March - April? And how many points would people be keen on?

I've never organized before but I would be up for trying it if no one else is willing Smiley

EEP can't wait for LOK season 2!!!
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Trying to recreate this beaded cuff bracelet on: December 10, 2012 10:42:19 AM
Hello!

I'm trying to recreate this beaded cuff bracelet I really love. It looks like this, and it's just on an elastic thread.

I'm having some trouble getting started because I tried Michaels and I couldn't find the right beads. So I thought I'd come to you guys for help! Smiley

If you have any advice as to where I can find beads (black, gold, and crystal) like the ones in the picture, or even how I could go about actually beading the piece, I would be very grateful!

Thank you!
4  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Those popular Glitter Shoes, paint questions on: September 12, 2012 10:14:09 PM
Hey everyone!

So I've been itching to make one of those pairs of glitter shoes everyone seems to be making these days Smiley I still need to buy the shoes, but I was at Michaels today and saw glitter acrylic paint.

Most of the tutorials I have read use either mod podge or glue with loose glitter, and then an acrylic sealant spray at the end to hold in the glitter. So I was just wondering if any of you wonderful crafty individuals have tried glitter paint on your shoes? Does it stay as well and is it as sparkly?

At Michaels they had two brands of glitter paint, Martha Stewart (and her fine loose glitter has been on a lot of tutorials I've seen so that's good) and FolkArt's Extreme glitter. I want a champagne-y gold glitter and I didn't seem to find that in Martha Stewart's colors (Sandstone looked promising but the actual glitter pieces didn't look right), so I bought Champagne in FolkArt.

Here's what the FolkArt bottles look like (it's not those big tubs, although maybe it's the same product?)

So I guess my main questions are:

1) have you used acrylic glitter paint (FolkArt or Martha Stewart) and does it work well on shoes? Is it glittery (I want super sparkly  Grin)?
Or should I just buy the loose glitter and use mod podge?

2) have you used Martha Stewart's glitter paint in Sandstone and does it look like the color on the bottle? Does it look like a golden champagne? Or reddish (which is what it seemed like) Something like this? http://www.heels.com/womens-shoes/anderson-gold-glitter.html

3) Do you have any method you've tried that you just recommend to get super sparkly (but sturdy that won't drop glitter everywhere) shoes, and I just shouldn't bother with over-thinking it  Cheesy

Paint just seems easier than mixing all that glue so just wondering if anyone had any experience with it Smiley
Thanks so much for any help!
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Animated things swap? on: June 07, 2012 11:15:39 PM
So my proposition for an Animated Things swap stems from the fact that I realized I am constantly looking for swaps that cover various fandoms, many of them being based off of animated shows/movies/games etc.

I figured a lot of us may have varied animated interests so hopefully some of those interests would overlap? I know I've been itching to make/receive swag for various Miyazaki movies (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc.), Avatar the Last Airbender (I know I'm late to hop on the boat, but I just started watching it and I love it! Done with Season 1!), Kingdom Hearts (video games count right?), How To Train Your Dragon (I noticed this had a lot of interest on the Disney swap but it's not Disney), Disney, and I'm sure many others that are just slipping my mind right now.

I've only done one swap, so I'm not sure I'm ready to mod (or if I'm even allowed), but I just wanted to see if there was any interest out there! Smiley
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Harry Potter Gryffindor Scarf - finally! on: May 05, 2012 01:42:52 PM
So I was a lurker here on Craftster for a very long time until the Back to Hogwarts swap pushed me to finally get an account last fall. And besides the swap I never posted my projects, so I figured I should. Smiley

I FINALLY finished my HP Gryffindor scarf this past December! I think that makes it a work-in-progress for a year? Heh heh Smiley
As it is my first knitting project, I used this scarf to teach myself to knit, so it's not perfect, but I love it nonetheless Smiley

It was after I saw tasket.basket's BEAUTTTIFUL scarf that I knew I wanted to make one for myself. So just like she did, I used the atypically.knit pattern for the Prisoner of Azkaban-style scarf. I don't think atypically.knit works anymore, but you can still find the pattern through archives, I included the link below.

tasket.basket's post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=258542.0

Scarf:

More true to colors:

Since this scarf was knit in the round, it was quite a lengthy first project. The scarf ended up being roughly 6 feet long and 10 inches wide (with the width varying a little, because my blocking needs some work haha). I decided to add my initials on one end of the scarf, because if I'm making my own scarf I might as well right? So I used cross-stitching to do that.

Thanks for looking! Any knitting tips for a beginner are most welcome Smiley
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Short Harry Potter Swap just in time for last movie?! on: June 04, 2011 09:58:50 AM
Hi everyone!

So I've been eyeing craftster for a couple of months now and now that I'm finally out of school for the semester I got really excited about doing a swap. Of course, just my luck, I realized that I hadn't created an account yet so I literally just made mine today (so I guess that means I can't do any of the swaps currently signing up Sad )

Anyways, I obviously can't mod but I would LOVE a last-minute Harry Potter swap in honor of the last movie (coming out July 15th in the US at least)!!

Would anyone else be interested?
