1681  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: wicked awesome knitting books? on: February 12, 2006 07:38:35 AM
The three books that I use the most often for patterns (both original and heavy alterations) are Stitch 'N Bitch, Stitch 'N Bitch Nation and Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. But that could just be me ^_^
1682  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Pattern search help! Elizabethtown... on: February 09, 2006 09:46:17 AM
Okay after watching Elizabethtown for the 2nd time last night, it's official that I HAVE to have Kirsten Dunst's hat! Does anyone know where I can find a pattern that is similiar enough to modify or has anyone made a pattern for it? Sooooo cute!

1684  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Does any one else buy WAY too much yarn? on: February 03, 2006 10:56:24 AM
I don't like to think of it as "buying too much yarn" so much as being a good Girl Scout. "Always be Prepared". I mean, you wouldn't drive down a dark country road without your cell phone and a jack in your trunk, right? Well you can't very well troll a craft forum without having an ample stash of yarn. I mean, what if you find the perfect pattern (or couple dozen perfect patterns) and you DON'T HAVE ANY YARN WITH WHICH TO KNIT??  Shocked This is the terrifying thought that keeps me up at night. Fortunately I shall never have this problem so long as I have a breath in my body and a debit card in my wallet!!  *strikes a dramatic pose*

... fortunately I have enough yarn stocked up to clothe a small country  Grin
1685  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Bad Penny from Knitty... on: February 03, 2006 10:23:36 AM
Has anyone made this or attempted to make this? It looks so uber cute I really want to try it, but I'm curious if there is anything I should know about the pattern? Also, what would be a good substitute yarn?

I'm a yarn snob.  I don't mean to be but I love, love, LOVE the feel of nice yarn.

hehe there is liking nice yarn, which we ALL do, and then there is belittling a person's project because of their yarn choice. Example:

I was wearing this pair of arm warmers I had made. This girl asked about them, I said I made them and she was oogling over them and saying how much she liked them and could I give her the pattern. I said yes and she asked what yarn I used. I told her it was LB's striped sock yarn (Jellybean or something?) to which she wrinkles her nose and says, "Oh, nevermind. I don't work with junk like that." and turns away. THAT is being a yarn snob, imo.

Affording nice yarn when and where you can because you like the feel is just having good taste!  Cheesy

A moogle beanie sounds cute, you could try something similar to what i did to get the pompom to stand up, i ended up knitting and i chord around a spring, i don't know how well it would work with a hat though but it might be worth a try. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics

A spring! Brilliant! I'll have to look for one at JoAnn's this weekend!   Grin

Good job, kupo! I am actually in the middle of making a moogle beanie; I'm using the kittyville hat pattern and am going try to get the pompom to stand up. I'll have to try to post pics of it. Glad to know I'm not the only FF knitter =^.^=

... Hello ... my name is Nymeria and I'm a compulsive yarn buyer. It's been three days since I last bought yarn... *nervous twitch*

NO you are not alone. Those adds bug the heck outta me. Every time I see them I get caught up thinking about just how uncomfortable and impracticle they look and sound. Have you ever stepped into a puddle with your socks? Imagine that all over your body ... *shudder*  Undecided
