21  Hobbit mini art quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by danynn on: February 20, 2013 07:16:25 AM
I made this for the recent mini art quilt swap. My partner had as a theme "journeys from Hobbit/Lord of the Rings", so I made a hobbit door and a path leading to the Lonely Mountain. Then I used a fabric marker to write on a quote that my partner had on her Pinterest. I didn't write quite as straight as I wanted but I think it turned out okay.

I received from Deece! She picked 'sunflowers' from my list of themes and made this amazing quilt:

It's just perfect! She nailed the colours I love. I actually have a bedspread that has these exact shades of yellow, green, and red in it, so I'm going to be hanging this in the bedroom to compliment the bedspread. Thanks so much!

23  It's time to meet the Muppet quilt! in Quilting: Completed Projects by danynn on: January 11, 2013 10:47:14 AM
So, backstory: about three years ago I was looking for a hobby. A friend sent me to Craftster and told me to browse until I saw something I wanted to do. I saw this http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=132059.0 and knew what I wanted to do. Except MORE. There was no way I was making a Muppet quilt without Fraggles. Cheesy And I knew it had to have Swedish Chef, and Beaker, and Statler, and Waldorf...and all of a sudden I was on my way to this:

That's 25 Jim Henson characters from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock. Only 11 of them came out of the book Quilting with the Muppets. The rest I designed using the same technique and pictures from the web.

And the real kicker? I sewed every single one of those squares BY HAND. Because back then I still thought I was going to do handquilting. I won't tell you how often I swore while making the squares (especially the Count and his 29 *$&%&#* tiny pieces). Let's just say there's a reason this quilt sat unfinished for almost two years until I got a good machine and did the quilting in a day. Tongue

Closer-up pictures of the quilt:

It got here today!

She went with my steampunk theme. I love it! I don't know if you can tell in the photo, but the owl in the girl's hand and the flower behind her are both raised pieces that are attached to the painting.

I received this gorgeous steampunk-y embroidery from dfabbric!

Isn't it beautiful? I'm in awe of the skill.

Also, here's a brighter picture of the mini-quilt I sent frogprincess:

This is a little late, as I received Monday, but here's the wonderful ornament I received from craftsunderground:

It reminds me of a diver's helmet and I love it!

Also, here's a slightly less reflective shot of the hot air balloon I made mthrasher:

29  Four seasons tree (baby quilt) in Quilting: Completed Projects by danynn on: October 22, 2012 12:09:03 PM
I made this quilt for two of my friends (the ones I made the Rainbow "Fractal" bargello wedding quilt http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=387535.0 for last year) who are expecting their first baby later this month. They're both very into nature and sort of spiritual about seasonal change, so I thought this was a good theme for them.

Close-ups of the four seasons are below. There are 18 circles and 24 ovals per season. After tracing them, cutting them out, and sewing them on, I was seriously cursing myself for choosing this quilt!  Tongue Although it was a great way to get rid of some small scraps I had around. And, most importantly, my friends loved it.

30  Sailboat baby quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by danynn on: October 22, 2012 12:00:04 PM
I made this quilt for a friend of mine, who loves sailing and is expecting her first baby any day now.

It was fun to make but a bit challenging because it's all made out of scraps I had on hand! That's exactly how much sky and tree fabric I had around, and I didn't even have enough ocean - there's none under the boat, and the rest was pieced together in strips! You can sort of see that in the picture, particularly the bottom left corner, but I think it's still okay.
