I actually made the photo blocks using photo transfer medium (
http://www.enasco.com/top/407/Fabric+Decorating/Photo+Transfer+Medium/). I had to photocopy all the images onto regular paper, then apply them to the fabric using the glue-like medium. Then once it's dry, you wet and wipe the paper off with a sponge. If you scrub too hard, you take the image off (as I learned the hard way!), so you have to be careful.
I ended up using that because I happened to have some around in a batch of craft supplies (which is what gave me the idea for the quilt in the first place), but there are a ton of easier ways to get images on fabric now, from iron-decals to special fabric you can buy and run right through your ink-jet printer. There are even places that will do all the work for you - you send them the pictures, they send it back on fabric!
I would probably use some other method if I did another one, just because it was a lot of work. I am happy with the result though.
do you have to photography all the images onto normal paper or was it a personal choice? thanks
