2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / CRAFT's summer jacket knit-along on: July 07, 2010 11:58:13 AM

CRAFT's That Girl! Summer Jacket by Nikol Lohr is a top-down knit retro-inspired cropped summer jacket that goes from sunshine to summer nights or chilly air-conditioned offices. Starting next week, join Nicole and Natalie Zee Drieu in CRAFT's special knit-along to make this cute cardi. Nat will be knitting the pattern and showing off her progress, while Nikol will show you how to vary the pattern and will also make a collarless/longer cardigan with a sleeve variation. She'll also share info on how you can adjust the pattern size for teens, kids, and babies.

This is such a coincidence, I just gave my old roommates a crane mobile that I made a week ago!  They had a new baby the very next day.  And since then I've been in that crane-making kind of mood, so I was actually thinking of making something tonight. Then I come on here and see this - wow!
These are photos of a mobile I made for myself probably like three years ago, in college.  I was trying to replicate one that someone made for me when I was a baby.  Why did I have to make a new one?  Because my mom threw it out!  The cranes were a bit dusty, but it was not the kind of thing I would have thrown out.  Anyway I guess the silver lining is that I learned how to make a crane mobile.

From below!

The branches I like best are manzanita, and I just use a needle and thread it through the balance point in the crane's back.  The one I made for new baby (named Raven) was a smaller manzanita branch than this one, with fewer cranes that were in solid colors.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: I finally got off me bum and made this!! on: April 05, 2008 10:29:19 PM
Fantastic!  Yours has much more life than the flavorless model version.

I bookmarked it - if I ever start sewing things other than plain white curtains, I might try something like this.  Well, that might be ambitious for me...  anyway, good job!

I also bookmarked this - so nice...

that's really nice.  how did you make it?  i think i'd like to take a stab at making something like that because, it doesn't look too difficult.  also, that style is more flattering to my flat chest than the ones that gather at the bust.  if you don't mind, you should post a tutorial!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Fingerless Mosaic Mitts on: November 15, 2005 11:58:31 PM
Here are my mitts, finally.  i am happy to be done with them!  they were meant for a birthday present in june.  i liked italian's idea of switching the colors in the pattern on the other mitt, so i lifted her idea.  i did the increases on the thumbs wrong, increasing each row instead of every other as i think you're supposed to.  but they still look okay in that area.  also, if i make them again, i'm making them longer.  it's always nice to have a little wrist and forearm covered.

i picked pink because it's my friend naomi's favorite color.  i used anny blatt merino wool.  hopefully they fit her and she will wear them!
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Projects from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts" on: August 25, 2005 12:11:11 PM

this is the "kim's hat"... roll brim variety.  i made it in less than a day!  but i really did stay up all night.  i made it for my friend ryan, who does have a bigger head than me, but not that much bigger.  the hat is still a little loose on him.  i used manos del uruguay kettle dyed wool yarn.  i like working with this yarn because it has width and color variation - like right on the front, under the gray stripe, the blue yarn gets a little lighter.  (it's not the camera flash)  ryan has duck fluff blonde hair and nice blue eyes so i think the colors will look good on him.  well, blue looks good on everyone.
