I'm in the UK and 10ply (worsted, aran) is hard to come by here. I use DK (8ply) for my amigurumi with a 4mm hook and have no issues with stuffing showing through.

 

My kitty would do the same when she was a little kitten. I have a water bottle with stones in it. When she does something naughty....climbing the curtains, scratching the TV screen...scratching the sofa. A sharp shake of the bottle and she runs of and does'nt do it again. Just got to make sure you don't make eye contact once the noise has been made otherwise they associate it with you and get fearful of you.

Or....she will probably grow out of it. At that age kitty's are so so playful, mines only 18months and I already miss her being that young
