I home-school my 9 year old son and we have been doing edible creations this semester in art. I couldn't believe it when I saw this contest while browsing through the your site. I knew we HAD to enter!
We chose a checkerboard theme after a travel board we own.
We used different flavored fondants for the sides, and chocolate and vanilla boxed cakes under the fondant.
**I should be more specific because my pictures are small and hard to see (don't know why. computer illiterate I guess ...):
We used dark chocolate fondant for the sides, as well as the darker checker pieces.
We used a white chocolate fondant for the white tiles, and a peanut butter fondant with dark chocolate swirls for the marbled, lighter colored tiles.
The pink checker pieces were made from a white chocolate fondant that we colored with dry cherry jello mix.
Nothing fancy, but a lot of fun!
