I would totally recommend a class, I took one last year and has improved my sewing confidence no end. There were people on the course of all abilities all doing different projects but everyone was so nice and helpful, so even if the teacher is busy usually someone can give you some advise. It's just helpful to be shown your way round a pattern or how to cut the fabric and just to be able to get the answer to a particular query when it arises.
However...if you can't get on one that's not very helpfull! Most creative people are desperate to share their creations and enthusiasm with other people who share their passions. Perhaps you could start a Facebook group with a view to find some other sewers in your area so you can meet up and sew together? You just might start a revolution!

SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing with Leather

Hi There, I've recently been very inspired by some of the amazing leather projects on this site and I'm eager to have a go myself. Would it be possible to sew leather on my machine? It's nothing fancy. I've seen some linen thread but it says it's only suitable for hand sewing. Anyone got any advise? Thank you for looking!

SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing with sweatshirt material

Hi I was looking for some advice, I'm doing a project which involves sweatshirt material (which I have never sewn with). Should I be using a strech needle in my machine? Also what sort of stitch should I use? I've tried a zig zag but I've unpicked it all as the stictches just seem too visable and loose. Is it a tension problem? Help!! Katy
