361  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: crayons in glue gun? on: October 13, 2005 07:06:13 AM
If you care about messing up the glue gun, don't do it. Smiley Its more like the glue messes up the crayon gun! The crayons just melt through, so If you wanted to use it for glue afterward, I bet you could. It might be colorful though. I wonder what else we could put through a glue gun? some kind of food?   chocolate? Clean unused ones of course..... I may have to get a few more guns and see what I can think up! Smiley

I did it just now. It was not very exciting. The crayon was too big for the glue hole, so I shaved the sides off with a screw head. Then I sanded it a bit more. I stuck the crayon in, and the top melted so quickly, that there was nothing to push on to get the rest through. it came out liquid, and I pushed it through with a long screw because I didn't want to take the time to shave down any more crayons until I knew what to expect. I bet if you had the right gun, and crayons that fit, and a reason to need liquidy color waxy stuff it would be good for something. it didn't splatter, but I think it could. I used crayola, but I wonder if you used the cheaper more waxy crayons if it would have a differnet outcome?

Just wondering how everyones projects are coming along. I have had a really hard week with my kids, and so have only managed about 20 minutes of work a day. It is slowly coming together though! I am having a hard time staying patient, because I like to just sit and work til the project is done, but this is a big one, and I want it to be good! My sewing machine has been very disagreeable through all of this, so that just adds to the tediousness. I am so excited to show it off though!! I am guessing 5 more days. Thats what I thought 5 days ago though. ARGH

I craft when I should be sleeping, is that the same as I sleep when I should be crafting?  Tongue

OK, I got all the stuff together, I am going to really get started soon! I did a little bit today, and I have a few sketches to work out still to figure out what I am going to do exactly, but I think I am going to be able to use an idea I have had for years just waiting for the perfect project! Hooray!

Here is my before picture:

I can't wait til I can post the after picture!!!!!! WOOHOO! I am going all out on this one! Smiley
367  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Re: 5 ft long wall collage = totally awesome. on: September 07, 2005 05:37:27 PM
HEY! I keep my thread the same way!!! I would take a picture, but it is so pathetically empty of thread it is more like a board with nails. I painted eyeballs all over mine, and I hang it sideways above my kitchen sink. (My whole house has been taken over by craft storage!!)I also made a scissors caddy and hang it from there too, that way the kids can't "accidentally" use my good scissors for cutting stuff, and it keeps them high up and away from my 2 year old too!
368  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: not completely done but... on: September 04, 2005 08:38:49 PM
thanks, i think its coming out very good for a first time knitter, especially since ive only been knitting for about 2 weeks...not to toot my own horn or anything lol

Toot away! I decided to try an knit a week or so ago, and I am giving up. I thought sewing took patience. I am all about instant gratification! Smiley So, I now have a really cute knitted headband! Smiley

Your scarf is going to be awesome! You will be wishing for the cold to come so you can show it off! Smiley Hooray! TOOT TOOT
369  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Hurricane Katrina one way swap? on: September 03, 2005 09:32:37 PM
I read this post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=51668.0

And realized there may be lots of craftsters who lost their supplies. If somebody would be intersted in organizing a swap where we send out supplies to craftsters who lost them, that would be nice.
We all have boxes full of supplies that didn't work for us, or we haven't gotten to, I have piles of lace scraps, and lots of neckties. I also have some clay I could part with and lots of fabric scraps.

Does this sound like a good idea?
Would anyone be interested in organizing it? (I don't meet the qualifications)
Are there enough craftsters without supplies who would be interested in getting gifts like this?  I will be happy to participate if somebody wants to organize it.

This summer, my kids went to a nature class and did art projects. The loved the project where they put glue on paper, and then sprinkled glitter over it. They also liked making stick figures of themselves. they just had cardboard shaped like a person, and felt cut outs of clothes and hair. The kids got to dress the dolls by gluing the stuff on. You may also want to go here:

about halfway down the page, you will see an arts and crafts section. there might be some good ones there. Good luck! Have fun with those kids!
