1  Re: 2005 Completed Costumes Scrapbook (completed projects with pictures go here) in Halloween Costumes by ladywyntir on: November 16, 2005 12:28:13 PM
Ok better late than never.  This is my halloween costume from this year.  I was Mia Wallace after the overdose complete with the needle in the chest.  I used black pants and a whit shirt I already had, and mad the corset type thing with an existing bra, and some black and white material leftover from a dress recon.

too bad I forgot to put the sleeves down in the picture, the shirt has french cuffs just like in the movie.

Hope I posted the photos right, this is my first post.  The costume was a hit.  everyone recognized me almost immediately, and all were amazed at the needle in my chest.

Wow... that's ghoulish!!!  I eat the needle!! hahahahaha and the bloody nose is perfect!

Here's mine from this year (my pic on the left/ movie reference on the right):

Sadako and towel man from Ringu (Samara from the American version - The Ring).

2  Re: NY stranger looking for Thrift Stores&Yarn Stores in NYC/Queens in New York: NYC and Long Island by ladywyntir on: August 24, 2005 07:47:26 PM
Jamaica Ave, in Jamaica (you can take the Long Island Rail Road from Manhattan to the Jamaica Station), has several fabric stores that have some yarn, a Sav-a-thon (yarn upstairs) and yes, smiley's yarns in Woodhaven.

For a better understanding of the transportation system, check out http://www.mta.info that should help you to get around.

Also, if you're going to be around for a while, i suggest getting a weekly unlimited metrocard.
this way, you can travel the Subways and Busses with unlimited trips.  ^_^

Doesn't work on the RailRoad though.  Good luck ^_^

You can always do the classic Mystique...

It's not quite spandex... and very flowy... the leg slits are nice ^_^

Then if you don't mind the blue color... hee hee

4  Cosplay Crochet - Mai HiME (several images) in Crochet: Completed Projects by ladywyntir on: July 27, 2005 08:58:26 AM
Hello Craftsters!!

This past gurgle gurgle drool i attended a Sci-Fi/Anime convention called I-Con 24.  My plan was to go dressed as one of the newest anime characters i saw, and in this case it was Tokiha Mai from the show Mai HiME.

Because i lacked a sewing machine at the time, and only had my crochet skills to back me up, I decided to make part of my costume... hee hee hee

I searched high and low for pictures that showed her school vest so i could get the right proportions.  Turns out that the first attempt was too short and the seams didn't match just where i liked.  With only two days left, i started again to make the finished product.

Here is the best picture i could find that was close up of her vest:

And here is my finished costume:

I took a tank top for the shaping and made it up as i went along.  It's all in SC, the gold in rows and the white borders it.  The yarn was a blessing because they sold it just for 3 weeks before the convention and they JUST HAPPENED to have that color - 99 cent skeins!!

And for the blue bag reference:

I have lots of work to do on the vest... making it formfitting for one Tongue.  But i'm debating on whether i should sew it or crochet it again.  It was fun, but i just waited too long to do it properly!
