My friend has a shiba inu called toto who is very cute, and they live out west. I don't see them often, so i decided to send out a nice belated xmas gift i x-stitched. I recently began stitching, and am still getting the hang of it, but getting more confident Smiley

2  Xstitch Nativity Scene (pic heavy) in Winter Holidays by miskisita on: December 25, 2013 01:39:41 PM

I took the time to make my nativity scene figurines this year, and I'm happy I did it as I was without nativity scene for the past few years. I cross stitched all the characters taking inspiration from images I googled, with some modifications and personal touches. I used a boreal forest theme since I live in the land of boreal forests (canada).

Made my own sky, trees, stars with aluminum foil. Pretty much all the materials were recycled or already in my stash so hardly spent any $ on it Just quite a bit of time but totally worth it Smiley

Sky

Some trees in the making

Picking fabrics

I picked different fabrics to use as the back of the figurines and stuffed them, and sewed them together with a sewing machine and some hand stitching. Here are details.

Holy Family

Forest Animals

Magi

5  Hand Sewn Ornaments and Mini-branch tree in Winter Holidays by miskisita on: December 09, 2013 09:25:26 AM

Last year I moved out on my own, and so of course at Christmas time I needed to stock up on decorations etc. I loooove decorating, it's my favorite thing about the holidays. Anywho, I was very excited to make my own decorations, using all up-cycled fabrics and stuff I had in my stash. Here are some examples:

I ended up making a bunch of little houses, hearts, trees, and gingerbread men and I gifted them as ornament "sets" for loved ones last year. I had some left over for me of course, and used them on a "branch" tree for the 2012 holidays.

(2012 branch tree)

What I love about the branch trees is that they're free. You can just walk around the neighbourhood in the fall when everyone is pruning their gardens and the strong winds are breaking branches off the trees; best time to find lovely branches. I did the same this year, but decided to go with a mini tree as I will be purchasing a potted sapling to decorate before xmas. All in all, I'm pleased with how it turned out, it was basically cost-free, as I used old stuff and recycled.

PS. When I got home with my branches in the fall some of the buds looked so bright and green that I thought, mm what if I put them in water? well guess what? they're blooming now! they must be so confused looking out the window!  Huh

6  HOLIDAY SNOWFLAKE in CHALLENGE 93 ENTRIES by miskisita on: December 08, 2013 09:37:21 AM

So I took out my trusted circle hole-puncher, and gathered up a couple candy and gum wrappers, and proceeded to punch our some circles (except the kit kat wrapper which I had to cut by hand after it jammed the puncher  Angry )

Very simple stuff, just basic materials, and voila a nice little snowflake I can use as holiday decoration Smiley

I had some left over circles and was having trouble thinking what to do with them... Last year i had used some to make a garland, so I thought this year I'd use these to make something else. Anyways, started playing around with it, not sure thought what it will end up being... a card for someone special maybe? Smiley

7  DINO-DOG in Halloween Costumes by miskisita on: November 05, 2013 09:31:26 AM

This year for Halloween Miski became MiskiSAURUS!

I searched google images for easy to make/low budget pet costumes, came across this Martha Stewart Idea: http://www.marthastewart.com/852544/doggie-dino-tank and used it as inspiration for this look.

Miski's costume is made entirely our of felt and hand sown, and instead of wearing it as a shirt it's intended to be a little cape which is tied down with ribbons. Luckily I already had all the materials, so it was very cost effective!

It rained on halloween here in montreal, so she did not get to flaunt it around the 'hood Sad we still had fun though, wearing to visit with friends and to model around the house Smiley

Some detail pics (excuse the fur Tongue)

8  heart-felt birthday banner in Completed Projects by miskisita on: November 23, 2011 03:02:10 AM
My friend lives on another continent, this year for her birthday I wanted to send her something hand crafted but I had little time to make something. Luckily a while back I had seen these lovely felt hearts http://curlybirds.typepad.com/curly-birds/2011/08/first-day-of-school-hearts.html on the internet and I started making some that I put in a jar of my own. So for my friends birthday, I made her a banner of felt hearts, with her name written on it.

Got the idea from the interwebs, usually I saw them made with some type of mesh wire;
but I only had some fabric so I used that instead. Stitched some colorful thread on the sides, for fun.
Finally all the earrings where I can see 'em!

10  pimped out back to school folders! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by miskisita on: November 22, 2011 10:18:09 PM
I realize it is November, and that school started months ago, but I have been sooo busy!
I had some old folders lying around, so I decided to pimp'em out with colored paper, paint, images of virgin marys and even bus tickets from the last time I was home (lima)!
So, folders successfully pimped out; going back to school like a boss Smiley
