1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Buyer Turn Ons on: April 01, 2008 06:08:26 PM
-A thank you note inside the package.

This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. As a buyer, I feel special when a seller takes the time to acknowledge me.

The Fabric Flea Market takes place twice a year (I think) at the Glebe Community Centre. You'll find great deals and more than just fabric. A good way to spend a day.

That was very sweet of her! I think we'd all like to see the dress when it's done.

5  CANADA / Ontario / Re: Bouclair in Toronto (St. Larewnce SQ) now home fashions only on: January 13, 2007 12:08:01 PM
As a manager at BouClair, I am also very disappointed with the change in the company's product. I started working there in high school because I loved the idea of working in a fabric store, and it was great, but over the past few years they have begun to change direction.

The employee you spoke to had the right idea, but wasn't completely correct. It's not that the fabric and craft stuff doesn't make a profit, it's that the home dec product makes MORE of a profit. On an average day, 75% of my store's sales come from home dec, 20% comes from blinds and rods, and only about 5% from fabric. Most of the stores will continue to sell drapery fabric and some notions, but the new stores being opened will not even have that.

It makes me sad, and it's hard when sewers come in and are upset about the change. The employee in me has to justify it, but the sewer in me is also upset about it.  Sad  The good thing for me though is that I buy clearance readymade curtains and stuff to use as fabric for real cheap. Sometimes you just have to adapt! But it's still not that same...

Just my luck, I read this post on Oct. 2.  Angry

While I'm here, I'll mention the Fabric Flea Market that is coming up on October 14th. It is at the Glebe Community Centre, only from 10am to 2pm. I had a booth last year, and there were people lined up at 9am... it was crazy busy. There are amazing deals on fabric, knitting, needlework and other crafty stuff.  PM me if you want more details.
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: reversible vs. not on: September 06, 2006 04:28:41 PM
I agree. I would pay more for a reversible tote.

I would check around and see what other people are pricing theirs at. That would give you a good idea of the average price difference between the two.
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: machine is sooo loud... on: September 01, 2006 04:20:44 PM
You can ask your neighbours if they actually hear it or not. I had the same problem with my surround sound, and it turned out they couldn't even hear it.  And if they CAN hear it, maybe ask what time would be the best for you to use the machine (ie. when they are at work).

OR you could just not care and do it despite the noise.  Grin
9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: braces! on: September 01, 2006 04:16:11 PM
Super cute. If I had something like this when I had braces, it would have made me want to smile too every time I saw it. That was a great idea. Smiley
