Laura, try using smaller size paper. Then when you go to roll them make sure to keep close precision, and make them as tightly wrapped as you can. Also I'm not quite sure of what you really want them to look like, but to keep them looking neat, use a ruler when drawing a line on your paper. Hope I was of some help to you!
