451  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - JUNE, 2011 in The Swap Gallery by jillybeans on: June 20, 2011 08:29:11 PM
I had a mailbox full o' fun today!  I got THREE ATC's!!  Yay!

The first two are from blupaisan for my themes Trees and Scottish Dancing and I love them both!

Blupaisan said she had a hard time deciding what kind of tree to do and decided to do a silhouette which I love her for because it is my favorite way to see them.  I love it!  It has a beautiful watercolor background.  Its called "Lone Tree at Sunset".

And an awesome Highland Dancer!    And I love love LOVE her!  She is doing the Fling!  I love that dance!    Its the first of the dances that I learned.  ^_^  She is so wonderful.  I love the plaid fabric in the background.  Beautifully done!

This one is from gozer, we did a personal swap.  She sent me this amazing girl and dragon.  Its called "The Prize".  It is so friggin' cool!  She also sent me a really cool coin purse w/ pirate print and some ATC covers.  Yay!

Thanks ladies!

452  KISS shirts and shoes using freezer paper stenciling in Stenciling: Completed Projects by jillybeans on: June 18, 2011 09:12:21 PM
I just did my first freezer paper projects and OMG did that take me a long time to do!  I normally do plastic stencils with discharge paste but I wanted to try something new.  My sister got my Dad tickets to a KISS concert for his birthday last month.  The concert is next week and so for father's day (and the concert) I decided to make him and my uncle, whom is going with him, shirts to wear.  I also did a pair of shoes for my dad, as well.  So here are my first freezer paper stenciling projects!  (Images are from the internet, not original art by me)

I love that I got to use color!  With discharge paste you get a fun distressed look for your shirts, but its always the same color.  I have shirts with color, now!  Yay!  I will get better with doing these eventually.  I'm not use to cutting out with an exacto knife instead of a hot stencil cutter.

And now to the shoes:

I also did these with freezer paper stencils.  I just did the white part on the faces with the stencils and then added the hair and colors.  Its way harder to apply freezer paper to shoes, but it worked.  The swirls and designs behind the faces were already on the shoes.

I used fabric paint for all of these and used a little sponge to apply the white and colors on the shirts, and the white on the faces.

And this is what my hand looked like at the end of all this.  LOL!  I really like this method of stenciling and I definitely think I will try this again.  I guess the only downside is that it takes a white to do and that the stencils aren't re-usable like my plastic stencils I make for the discharge paste.  Oh well, color is fun!!!

Even though I made the finger puppet ATC it still make me giggle uncontrollably to see it again.  ^_^  My husband and sister thought I was crazy when I started giggling at the ATCs.

Jillybeans, where do you get your ideas. You are so creative! Love the finger puppet card.
Thanks, gozer! The ideas just pop in there!  ^_^

That food with faces is so great!   I would have imagine happy faces, as well.  But its awesome that they are crazed!

I received two cards yesterday from lolaandbean!  YAY!

For my pirate theme:  Eliza the Pirate!

and for my pickle theme: Dancing Pickle!

They are both so vivid and beautiful!  Thanks lolaandbean!  ^_^

455  Magic ATC Tutorial w/ Pictures (LOTS!) in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by jillybeans on: June 15, 2011 10:04:45 PM
I made what is called a "magic" ATC for my swap partner in the Ongoing ATC Swap - June 2011 and there were a lot of people asking how it was done.  I have a hard time imagining instructions, so this is for those of you like me who need some pictures along with instruction (and because I love pictures!).  I learned how to do this at a card making party a few years back.  Here is the ATC I made for my swap partner:

Oooooo, magic!

And now onto the instructions!

Step 1:  Cut your base card and another piece of paper for your border that will go on top to the normal ATC standards (2.5" x 3.5").  My base card is a old game card.  Yay for recycling!  I like because its nice and thick.

Step 2:  Cut an opening into the piece of paper that you are using for your border.  I have a nifty oval template that I use.

Step 3:  Cut a piece of white paper to stamp your image onto.  It needs to be just short of the length of the card.

Step 4:  Temporarily align the white paper that you just cut behind the border.  I temporarily taped it to the border to hold it into place while I stamped it.  The tops of each piece of paper should aligned together at the top middle of the card.  Then stamp your image onto the white piece of paper.  Then remove tape and separate the border and the stamped piece.

Step 5:  Stamp the same stamp onto a sheet of acetate paper (also known as overhead sheets) using a permanent ink that is meant for all surfaces.  I use a Stazon ink pad.  They are wonderful!  They don't bleed so you can watercolor or marker over them without worrying about bleeding.

Step 6:  Line up the two stamped images and tape the bottom layer to the acetate sheet to make cutting easier.  Cut out the acetate sheet to the same size as the other piece.  Then add a small piece of tape at the top middle to keep the two together.

Step 7:  Add color to the image on the white piece of paper.  Just lift up the acetate paper and draw/paint away!  I filled mine in with watercolors.

Step 8:  Now its time to cut a piece of white paper that will go in between the two stamped layers.  This one should be just a little wider than the opening of the border and as tall as the opening of the border but reaches all the way down to the bottom of the card.

Step 9:  Tape the piece of paper that you just cut to the bottom of the base card.  Make sure it is centered at the bottom.

Step 10:  Add double sized tape or glue to the side edges of the border on the back.  Try not to glue too far in otherwise the stamped pieces won't be able to side in and out.  Don't add glue at the top and bottom edges of the border.  I used double stick tape.  Mine has a brown backing that I peel off.  Apply the border to the base card.

Step 11:  Now its time to make some magic!  Take the two stamped layers and starting with the solid white and slide that behind the white paper that is attached to the card under the border.  Next slide in the clear layer under the border on top of the white paper that is attached to the base card.

Step 12:  Cut a triangle into the border so that you can punch a hole into the two stamped layers and add ribbon.

Step 13:  Embellish the border to your hearts delight!  I added real mini star fish because I have a friggin' ton of them and they are cute!  ^_^

Step 14:  ENJOY!

I now challenge you to make a magic ATC card!  ^_^

I got two super cute cards today!!

This one is from tynwia for my theme "cupcakes".

The puffy paint really makes the cupcake looks frosted.  Mmmmmm.  I can eats this ATC?

The next is from WideEyedLife for my theme "home canning".

Its entitled "DAMN!" which is definitely a milder response than what I give when this happens to me.  I've actually had this exactly scenario with the peaches breaking open.  The rest of the jars were all sticky afterwards.  I love the jar and the detail of the peaches!  There are little shards of "glass" mixed in at the bottom with the loose peaches.  The little peaches are hand colored in and so cutely tiny!!

Thank you, ladies, for the beautiful ATC's!!!

457  Re: Tree Swap Round 3 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jillybeans on: June 13, 2011 07:46:19 PM
I received today from Miss Barbara.  Which makes today the best day ever!

I'll start with a group shot so you all can see my goodies all together.  TADA!  Pretty impressive haul, huh?  Miss Barbara had each item wrapped up in green paper.  It was like Christmas!  So fun!

Here is my beautiful crocheted wallet with a fun tree print inside and a leaf button, a rug mug, and a bookmark.  The rug mug is Miss Barbara's first sewing machine project and it turned out really good!  Look how cute it is!  I love the fabric.  I am going to put the bookmark to good use.  I am always reading a book.

Here is the inside of the super cute wallet!  It has little charms hanging off the side.

She embellished some containers that I will put to good use.  There is also an extra tree and a tiny llama pin.  (Which I LOVE).  I love tiny things, and llamas!  ^_^

Upclose with the cute little llama pin.

She made me tree note cards that have a different design on each card and little tree cards.  I will definitely put these to good use!

Look at these awesome little critters.  I got a tree stuffy and a gnome stuffy and they are the CUTEST!!!!

And my most favoritest item: a super long scarf that looks like it has leaves on it.  It has a leaf button at the bottom.

My husband and I modeling the totally wonderful scarf.  I wish is was colder out today!  Darn July!

And here is all my extra goodies!  Weeeee!

Thanks so much Miss Barbara!  I love everything I got!  ^_^

I got an ATC today for Gozer for my Halloween theme!  Yay!

Isn't it cool?  I freaking love it!  She stitched on the spider web with black thread and drew on the spider.  The background is a pretty watercolor.

Thanks, gozer!
