My awesome hooplas arrived from Smeddley!

(The one on the right is from my Pinterest and always makes me smirk - it's a bad habit maybe, but it is definitely something I do.)

And the beautiful illustration is inspired by a quote I'm sure you all know - Poe's raven's croaked catchphrase. Some stories (and poems) are certainly classics for a reason.

Thank you Smeddley, it was awesome swapping with you Cheesy

(I have no idea why this picture is so dull - I took this photo in broad daylight, and it looked great at the time... go figure)

I finally received my awesome package from vincenvanbuck and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Posting from USA to Aus normally takes about two weeks, but this was took almost four to get to me - and the envelope was pretty beat up, so I guess it took the scenic route. Luckily everything inside was in one piece.

Firstly I found this awesome painted and appliqued bag featuring the ever-iconic Companion Cube and covered with quotes from the delightfully snarky GLaDOS.

Then this dear little cross-stitched coin purse, featuring rupees (currency from the Legend of Zelda games) on one side and some Super Mario coins on the other - the stitching is so neat, I'm impressed!

And finally, a hoopla for my wall. I opened it up to find this -

 - a blue 'onion' from the Pikmin games, which is basically a home/spaceship for them. The daisy on top even spins like a propeller! But even better, when I lifted the onion aside, I found...

This awesome (and again, impressively neat!) cross stitching, of four little pikmin with the sampler-esque words "onion sweet onion". I think I'll have to find room for both pieces separately on my wall so I can admire both all the time.

So how's that for a first swap? I know I was impressed! Thank you so much, vincenvanbuck Smiley

Now it's my turn to add to this amazing gallery (I have yet to NOT be stunned by what you guys are making!), I received from silentblair today and I am so thrilled.

First up is the My Neighbour Totoro item (which you should all still watch if you haven't!), a soot sprite glasses case. These little guys are in a couple of the Studio Ghibli movies and they always crack me up - the stars are like the candy they are fed in Spirited Away.

It also had a couple little treats inside,

For the Mario item I got this sweet question block bag, made up with buttons:

I'm such a sucker for bags and this definitely did not disappoint.

Finally though, and I have to say I am still amazed by this, the Adventure Time item - a totally math Fionna and Cake hoop!

Seriously - look at the stitches! The French knots! My goodness!

I feel so totally spoiled, silentblair, thank you so much! Cheesy

I received from both lindyv321 and raewolo today! How exciting. And look at the lovely things I was sent.

I opened lindyv321's first, and look at what I found...

Rolled up sweetly - I had to take a picture.

A lovely alphabet sampler! I've always thought of making one myself, but now I don't have to. It's already hanging up on the wall.

And then I had another package to open, from raewolo! And inside -

Two awesome little bags! One is for lunch and one is for yarn - it even has a hole in it for the yarn to pass through when using it. I love the fabric and they're very well made Cheesy

Thank you so much, ladies, what a lovely surprise! Everything is great. Smiley

5  Re: Geek Swap Gallery Send outs Jan 30th in The Swap Gallery by queenofmarigold on: February 20, 2013 01:01:27 AM
Hey there guys - my package from karizmatic arrived today, so I get to add to all these great geeky things everyone has been receiving!

Firstly she made me this shrug/shawl (the beaded clasps are removable, so it converts pretty easily) from crazy gold scale-y fabric:

It's even quite warm, though it's very light.

I have to say I was even more impressed by this, though -

A knitted scale bag! I think it looks like a dragon egg, and will be perfect for my dice and miniatures for D&D night! It's also very sturdy, which I found out when I saw what else it was holding...

The lovely (but completely unexpected!) surprise of some moisturiser to try, and a cool little dragon pot.

So there's my lovely geeky surprise!

Friends, my package from Zephyr arrived today. And it's adorable! Let me show you the great stuff I got Cheesy

Firstly there was a little chest - and you know there's always good stuff in those!

... and inside it...

A set of stone tools (my personal favourite set) and a pig! With a saddle! These magnets are already up. Unfortunately they were difficult to photograph.

A little further down was a little velvet bag, and inside it...

Three sweet charms! As much as pigs are my favourites, in this case the adorable green sheep totally stole my heart.

And then, the most amazing piece of all -

This beautiful mixed media picture she made me. I think it looks just beautiful, and all the elements came together really well. I'm so impressed! I had to take an extra picture from a lower angle to show you just how textured and 3d it was.

So cool.

Thank you so much, Zephyr, I love it all Cheesy

Eiseldora and I conducted our own personal "geek swap" and look at the awesome loot she sent me!

A cute bag with Totoro on one side and Great A'Tuin the world turtle on the other -

Another bag, this time with Serenity and the logo -

An awesome Star Trek double-knit potholder -

49 amazing nerdy buttons (I can't even pick a favourite!) -

And these awesome prints of the quote I use to keep my D&D group in line when they misbehave -

What a great haul Cheesy

Edit: I think I solved (one side) of the puzzle??

Yeah. It looks like you did! If its right then you should be able to view the other aides by taking each row and turning them, so for example turn the current top faces to far away from you. If its right the next side should already be lines up.

9  Re: Embroidery Hoopla R8 - The Wordy Round Gallery in The Swap Gallery by queenofmarigold on: October 21, 2012 04:32:03 PM
Well, megzy received my angel hoop about a week ago so I'm just going to post up a picture, then I can stop worrying about the swap being done Wink

One of her phrases was "It's all just wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff" and after a little investigation I learned that this quote is from the same Doctor who wears 3D glasses at one point or another. Thus began the torturous idea of trying to stitch like this - it makes your eyes go all funny the whole time, and stitching the second lot of words is quite tricky, because it's hard to see where they go.

Anyway it turned out still legible (thank goodness) and while I doubt it would actually "work" with 3D glasses, at least the effect shows through.

(but horror of horrors, I forgot to dot an i and didn't realise until after I"d sent it  Cry )

This is pre-sewing but I just wanted to include a picture of the image I drew for the library book bag. It doesn't show here but we also stitched blue and white wavy lines around the top to represent Max's sea journey.
