21  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 7 ENTRIES / Christmas Jean Tree! on: November 06, 2005 09:33:36 AM
Here is my Christmas Jean tree!
I realize it's a little early to be thinking about Christmas crafts,
but I had this great idea as a present for my aunt, and this was a fantastic opportunity to act on it!

So the materials I used are:

scraps from two pairs of old jeans cut into 1.5 inch squares
a styrafoam cone
some wood pieces painted white for the tree base
some neddles with coloured balls on the end
a pen
a glue gun
some spray starch

And here's how I did it!

I covered the end of a pen with a jean square and then jammed it into the styrafoam tree.
And kept doing that untill it was covered with little jean squares everywhere!
If any of them were falling out, I used the glue gun to fill up the hole and put the jean in again on the pen. The base I put together with the glue gun, painted white, and jammed it into the bottom of the styrafoam and made it stay with some more glue gun help.
Then I put some pins in it to add decoration and make it look more christmas tree like and sprayed the whole thing with starch to stiffen it up and make it a little more sturdy.
It was super easy and I think it turned out nicely!

I hope you all like it!

22  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Paper mix book on: October 12, 2005 11:07:58 PM

A new mixed papers book I made. It's 200 pages and about 6x5 inches.
I've made a bunch more but with 100 pages to sell at a zine/d.i.y fest at the end of the month. Should be fun!
23  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / turn an umbrella into a kite ::TUTORIAL:: on: September 27, 2005 02:15:29 PM
So this was originall for a school assignment I had to do for my information illustration class where we had to take some objects, give them a new function, and then draw diagrams explaining them. So I got one of my fathers old umbrellas (he for some reason has kept a broken umbrella in the closet for a couple of years) and turned it into a kite! You'll have to click on my little illustration of those two fine gentlemen to see the full instructions image, as it's pretty big!

If anyone would like the text re-typed just let me know. It might be a little small.

24  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Illustration Friday: Escape on: September 21, 2005 08:53:58 PM

My piece for this weeks Illustration Friday theme of Escape.

Any one else participate in Illustration Friday? It's loads of fun!

25  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / An embroidered portrait of myself on: September 10, 2005 03:50:34 PM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v15/Piratecore/art/embportrait.gif
Self portrait in thread on cardboard. It's for the beginnings of a computer class assignment where we have to do a magazine spread mock up with a self portrait and bio.The magazine I'm using is going to be d.i.y. and crafting related and my self portrait medium is supposed to reflect that some how. Also, text is annoying to embroider when it's so small. Lesson learned for next time. My mistakes are probably painfully obvious to most of you. I'm not exactly seasoned at this sort of thing. It was loads of fun though, but it's such a pain when I made a mistake and had to figure out some way to cover up the hole in the cardboard
26  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Mixed papers sketchbook on: August 30, 2005 06:41:41 PM
Since college is starting up again for me next week, I decided to make myself a new sketchbook. I used different types of paper, like lined, cardstock, graph, etc, so that way I could still use it for my sketches and mini paintings as well as take class notes for assignments and other things. The flower patch on the front was an iron on that I got out of a Sampler that I got a while back from Bookishquilts.

Here is the fantastic stuff I got from Rangerbeth! She included a great Life Aquatic book to keep all my ipod stuff in, a Vickram Ray bracelet, a Max heart and bead necklace, a wicked blue soap with a little fish inside, some magnets with the greatest Rushmore quotes, and she even threw in some assorted papers!

And my favourite thing of it all! A Max Club President Jacket! So very cool. Thank you so much Rangerbeth!!

This is a little gouache painting I had done on cardboard after watching the film
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and seeing all the little sea creatures throughout.

29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Arrested Development Swap on: July 05, 2005 03:48:02 PM
I adore Arrested Development. I think it's such a fantastic and hilarious show! Would anyone else be up for an AD Swap?
30  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Felt Octo! on: July 02, 2005 10:50:50 PM
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v15/Piratecore/randomcrafts/octo1.jpg

This is something I've been working on for the past two days. It's made out of felt, it's tentacles are bendy and it's got shiny little beads on it's head. I think I'm going to add some more to the tops of the arms, and use some little buttons on the bottom for little suckers. It's mostly hand sewn too!
