11  Mempo Scarves in Screen Printing: Completed Projects by rosered on: February 21, 2008 01:54:20 AM

A collab between my boyfriend Craig and myself. He came up with the idea for a mempo inspired scarf and sketched out some design ideas, which I later re interpreted and then silkscreened onto these fleece scarves! A friend was kind enough to model it for me.

The Japanese Mempo is a traditional armoured face mask found on a Samurai Kabuto helmet. These fearsome masks not only protected their faces, but were used to intimidate foes on the battlefield. Interesting stuff!

I made these today! Each are 3.25 x 3.25 inches, hand bound with 60 pages of mixed papers and screen printed covers! It's my second time silk screening and I am really pleased with the results!

13  Re: wrap around cover mixed paper book [TUTORIAL] in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by rosered on: February 04, 2008 08:29:09 PM

I made another book and took photos as I did it for the tutorial. I found that old button in a drawer and thought it would make a nice cover embellishment!

14  wrap around cover mixed paper book [TUTORIAL] in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by rosered on: February 04, 2008 10:20:41 AM
I made this little book over the weekend. It's roughly 4 x 5 inches, is filled with 50 pages of mixed paper types, and has a soft vinyl wrap around cover! It's going to be a late birthday present for a friend. I hope she likes it!

I just put together a tutorial about how this was made over at my blog.
You can check it out here!

15  Start being RAD! Gocco print in Screen Printing: Completed Projects by rosered on: January 31, 2008 02:33:42 PM
Sometimes I get really down about my art work. It can be hard to stay  positive sometimes! But I recently came to the conclusion that getting sad and discouraged is really counter productive. So this year I have made a vow to stop being sad, and start being RAD! I designed this little inspirational image and then made some gocco prints.

I framed one in an Ikea frame I spray painted matte white and put it on my desk so it can remind me to keep being rad!

16  mixed paper sketchbook in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by rosered on: January 16, 2008 03:37:39 PM

I finished putting together a new sketchbook for myself yesterday! The cover is linen primed with gesso and then drawn on with paint sharpies and the inside is filled with watercolour, bond, bristol, canvas and ledger papers that was stitched together by hand with waxed thread (okay it's actually mint flavoured dental floss, but it does the job and smells delicious!) and then pva glue was used to cover the spine of the paper block with kraft paper and Super 77 spray glue was used to attach the end papers and the cover together. And the back cover is also drawn on in the same patterns. And it's 40 pages and is 7.5 in x 8 in!

I made this little elf tag to use on my Christmas gifts to my family.
And then I decided to make it a free download from my site to say thanks to everyone
who visits my website and checks up on my blog and stuff!
So go on and get yourself one! http://www.rosemarytravale.ca/elftag.jpg

And hey, I'd love to see pictures of them in use if anyone does print them out!

19  Re: Sea Mineral Mittens (Latvian-style mittens, soon to be a free pattern) in Knitting: Completed Projects by rosered on: November 29, 2007 08:06:20 PM
I have thought these mittens were so awesome since I first saw thew, and one of my good friends mother said she would make me a pair (since I can't knit for beans!) and they turned out SO AMAZING! I am so in love with them, and the fact that she made them in a few short days totally blows my mind! So I wanted to share some pictures of them with the different colours I picked out for them.

A scan of one of them (my camera is out for repairs at the moment!)

And a silly webcam pic of me filled with glee over these beauties!

Thanks again to spillyjane for sharing her awesome mittens pattern!
