4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Re: Stenciling a leather wallet on: September 10, 2007 08:15:04 PM
Stenciling on leather is quite similar to stenciling on fabric, you can use fabric paints, you may want to use a cottonball and rubbing alcohol or acetone nail polish remover to take any basic shine off the area to be painted.  You will have to use brown paper to between the iron and the freezer paper to prevent scorching the leather, everything else is the same.  Good luck with your project.

In addition.

Leather
1) Clean leather by wiping with mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol.
2) For best results, lightly spray mist a base coat of Opaque White on areas to be sprayed.
3) Apply color, avoiding over saturation and excessive paint layering.
4) Allow colors to dry thoroughly before heat setting.
5) Iron for 30 minutes at 225using a protective cloth, or use a hot air gun at highest level for five minutes.

Try Jacquard@  www.jacquardproduct s.com  They have colors that can be used on leather, fabric, most anything.  I have a booklet where they describe sealing your work with Future- the floor cleaner/wax.  Also you may use acrylic paints w/ textile medium or pretty much any fabric paint.  If you airbrush try Createx colors they are wonderful. www.createxcolors.c om

Have fun!
