This is a journal I made for my daughter's friend's 17th birthday. I used illustrator's board for the cover. All the pages are found/recycled/re-purposed pages. I've also included 1 inside page and the last page of the journal (the elephant is from the Graphics Fairy). The cover has magazine picture, rubber stamps, and stickers. The spine is stickers. The back cover has "reviews".

Because I'm raising geeky kids I made them Doctor Who necklaces for Christmas.

First for my daughter I found this round 1 inch locket type thing but with windows instead of solid doors. I cut out pictures of her two favorite Doctors and one of the Tardis and place all three inside. I got the pictures at: http://www.donteatthepaste.com/

Then at Michaels I found bottlecap supplies in the clearance bin! So using the same set of pictures I had printed out to make DD's favorite Doctors necklace I made her a Weeping Angel pendant.

First I cut out a piece of coragated cardboard and glued that into the bottlecap since my cut out was so flat and I thought it looked a little lost in the back of the cap. Then I glued on the angel I had cut out. After that dried I cut "Don't Blink" from two tiny pieces of torn paper and glued that one. Once it had dried I used paper glaze (for the first time and I'm in love with it now! ha ha) twice on it (allowing to dry between uses). Only it made this one bleed a little bit. It was the only print to do so.



Then because my son loves the villians and they were included in the set I made him two using the same method above:

I began looking everywhere for one I could make one with! At: http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/ I found one labeled "Amazing Vintage Butterfly" but I thought she was more of a moth.

I cut the pages from linen paper salvaged from old letterhead with the wrong Undersheriff's name on it and headed to the recycle bin and I watercolored them to match the colors in her wings. The moth is printed onto card stock. I sewed her together using cotton embroidery floss. I really liked the fuzzy yarn, but didn't have any .

I think she turned out so sweet.

If you haven't read Sarah's Journal you might want to start there. This one was second!

I tried to correct some of the errors I made with Sarah's when I did his. Wasn't always successful so any thoughts would be appreciated!!

I made this for him for Christmas and filled it with everything that he loves. Except for the illustrator's board I bought everything is salvaged items; paper brown bags; salvaged paper; magazine cut outs; printed off internet onto salvaged paper; ink stamps; paper found at thrift stores; given paper; etc.

The back which I hate. Tried to incorporate maps and globes which he loves, but I still don't like!

Here is the back cover. Instead of trying to get the scrapbook paper onto the first/last page and getting it wrinkled like Sarah's I decided to cut it into strips and hopefully reinforce the pages without messing up the pages! Still got the weird bubble thing down the seam.



Any ideas where I could have done something differant/better I would appreciate it!

This is the journal I made for my daughter for Christmas. I wanted it to represent all the things that make her - her. All her favorites and what not.

This was my second journal I've ever made and I would appreciate any thoughts on where I went wrong (you'll see what I'm talking about in a minute).

It is made from illustrator's board for the cover and that was the only thing I bought. Everything else is either magazine pictures; printed on salvaged paper; paper purchased from the thrift store; paper my Mom gave me; or ink stamped.

Here is the front cover. I covered the board with a brown bag but on Sarah's glued the printed side out instead of inside out. After a few minutes of cursing my stupidity I glued a plain white piece of legal sized paper around the book.



The back cover. I glued generic reviews from worn out paperbacks destined for the recycler and a cute quote from her favorite show, Doctor Who.



Here is the inside cover. The Tardis came from a DVD I think. Sarah gave it to me to put in her "top secret project" that eventually became know as the "journal-you're-not-make-me". Kids are so smart!!!  Now I glued a pieces of scrapbook paper inside and up against the first page of the journal in hopes of the pages staying in better. I think it was a big mistake because I just couldn't get that first page smooth! But of course it was too late by then... Plus there was a huge bubble/seam thing down the fold:

The flower and vase is from wrapping paper.



I used paper glaze on the stars to make them stand out a bit and make them shiny.






And here you can see the last page separating from the bank of pages. Luckily I glued that same scrapbook paper onto the back like I did on the front.

I decided to make my kids journals for Christmas after seeing this. But before I did I made a practice journal first.

This is the first ever journal I made. The cover is from a cereal box covered with the pretty holiday pattern from a brown bag. The inside from the other side of the brown bag. I cut the pages from paper salvaged from the scrap pile at work. I used PVA glue to get the pages in. At first it seemed fine, but the more I played with it the more the bank of pages began to come out. By then it was too late to turn back because I'd already started my kids journals. So I had to re-glue the page bank back into the cover. So far it seems to be holding.  It does not lay too flat.



You can see where the cover got a little messed up from the two glue attempts.

Any ideas where I went wrong? I think the first time I closed the journal when I put the pages inside. The second time I left them upright between two soup cans. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here is another one I made after my kids Journals (I put each of them in a separate topic to keep the pics down!). So far so good with this one, but have not opened/closed too much or used yet! I watercolored the first page and last page. Same paper as before. Still a cereal box cover, but my Mom gave me some pretty scrapbooking paper to cover it with.

Here are two sweet little love bugs for Valentine's Day. They are from Lily Sugar 'n Cream's website - FREE pattern.   Super easy to make too.

Here is another of my daughter's Christmas presents. I made it with some purple eyelash yarn that I got years ago at the Dollar Tree. (Love a good yarn deal!)  Came out so nice and I love the rich purple color and the feel of the yarn.

Now that Christmas is (way) over I can post the gifts I made for my daughter. This is one of them. It's a shoulder shrug. I made it in black and trimmed it with lime fun fur because that is her favorite color.

Here is a Fat Baby from Doctor Who.  I got the pattern from Raverly.  He turned out so cute and my daughter just loves him to death. He has a little buttons for his eyes.
