1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / What should I do with this? on: April 04, 2011 06:03:28 PM
Hi all,
I made this simple patchwork piece last year, but now I'm not sure what to do with it.  It was my first attempt at patch work and I didn't put enough time and concentration into it apparently as the squares don't line up that well and I didn't really plan the pattern properly.  However, I do love the colours and material swatches so I'd like to do something with it now, to make it into a finished something or other.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks

I have just joined Craftster, so this is also my first craft challenge and I was really excited to get creative with materials I don't normally use.  I happened to see some pipe cleaners in the craft store I was in so decided to bring them home to play with.  Almost immediately I decided I wanted to weave them into something, so I used a basic basket weaving technique to make a little vase.  It was cute, but a bit boring for a craft challenge, so I took a break to go see my mum...and that's where I got my inspiration.  She happened to be making a cast of a little pottery cat she's had for years, which I've always liked because of his simple fat-bellied shape, and I thought it would be a cute shape for a pen holder.  So, before I new it, I had a fuzzy cat pen holder for my desk.  However, I thought he might get a bit lonely, and I was enjoying weaving the pipe cleaners so much I couldn't stop, so along came a little birdie.

These are my two new craft buddies, eager to hold my pens, paintbrushes etc. for my next craft challenge

I do have a lot more pens, pencils, paintbrushes etc that need a home still, so I think there might be some more fuzzy desk buddies joining them soon!
