3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: austrian crystals? swarovski crystals? is there a difference?? on: November 08, 2005 12:25:18 PM
There is a big difference, if you're looking REALLY CLOSELY. Under a microscope, a Swarovski crystal's cut is very smooth, and the edges/facets are sharper and "cleaner" than other brands. And with their higher lead content, the cast of light reflection draws the eye a little better.

What this means (when not not under a microscope) is that "the other guy's" aren't as brilliant/sparkly/clear. The Swarovski crystals dye lots will match almost perfectly, where you might see a slight change within dye lots with other brands.

Topping this post for all the other Seattle-ites.

Yeah. I was going to say... 1) Don't let someone talk you out of what you want unless you think their idea is BETTER than what you wanted. and 2) Don't go back to the same guy unless you're sure he'll listen to you this time.

I love that place. The women who work there are all awesome.
8  Washington / Washington: West / Re: Bead Stores in the Seattle Area? on: August 09, 2005 07:19:00 AM
If you're ever up for it, I drive to Olympia to meet up with friends once a month. One works at Shipwreck Beads in Lacey, which is "the World's Largest Bead Selection". I used to work there too, so I can attest for it being HUGE. The natural stone selection isn't great, just because (like MOST bead places) they're not true stone... usually they're a replica made with glass... but they've got an increasingly large amount of sterling and gold fill findings, they've got a large selection of the mid-priced tools- no fancy German stuff! Sad A lot of the Seattle stores just go there to buy their stuff wholesale... so you can find tons of the same things at a different price. The website is: www.shipwreck.com . Also! The owner is a jerk but his family pretty much rules. So it's hard to say whether it's bad to support this place.

Our state is the best one! Of course, I've lived here more than half my life, so of course I'm a bit loyal. Anyways, when / if you've already moved out here, check into Rummage, and then the Urban Craft Uprising that will happen in November. There are also tons of little one-of-a-kind shops around the area that you can shop/sell at.

I am still waiting on a decision from 1/3 of my crew. She moved to Memphis, so is not sure she'll be able to get out here. I hope we'll be there. I've printed the application, and am still kind of "sitting" on it. I'm excited for this thing, by the way!
