1  UNITED STATES / New Jersey / Tattoo studios in NJ/NYC on: April 26, 2008 04:06:25 PM
Hello all,

My 27th birthday is coming up in a month and after much deliberation I have decided that I want to get a tattoo!!

However even though I live in NYC, where there are soo many tattoo studios, I want to be sure to go somewhere that is recommended by my very trusty fellow craftsters!!!

Can you guys please recommended some studios in NYC or even in NJ where you have been and like. Since this is my very first tattoo I want to go to a place where the people are nice, tolerant (coz i know i will cry with pain!) and above all not judgemental.

I have decided what and where I want the tattoo. I want a dragon on my ankle (not sure left or right) and am very excited to get it.

So any and every suggestion is very much appreciated.
Ofcourse my final choice will also be determined based on the cost involved!!

Thank you in advance guys!!

8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Authentic Indian Butter Chicken on: September 09, 2005 12:48:01 AM
Hi all!

So i suffer from major insomnia and that's the only thing that can eplain why i was cooking at 3.00 am!!!
Anyways I do eat chicken and some sea food but since my family is vegetarian I have never cooked non veg food at home. I never needed to coz i always got what i needed at great rests. back home. But since i'am in america now and not always able to get the indian style cooked food i decided to cook chicken for the first time in my life. And boy am i happy i tired it! And if you fancy Indian curry you shd make this!

Here's the recipe for the famous Indian style Butter chicken
(It's called butter chicken coz we use butter and not oil to cook it and also coz the gravy is all creamy and buttery and ohh so lovely.)

Ingredients (Beware: I don't measure but i'll try to give you some idea of how much ingredient i use)

2 pieces of boneless skinless chicken breast (Cut into bite size pieces)
A whole lot of butter (pls use salted butter)...well about 1/4 stick of butter...or maybe 1/2!!! Grin
One Onion, finely chopped
4 cloves of garlic
Equal amt of ginger
3 Halepeno peppers

(Now the following ingredients might not be that readily available but if you look in your grocery stores ethnic food section you will be able to find them)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2.5 tsps of red chilli powder (you can use cayanne(sp?) pepper
2.5 tsps of cumin powder (this you can make at home by just grinding up whole cumin seeds)
1 tsp of corriander powder
2 tsps of Garam Masala (i know this is purely an Indian spice...it's basically a whole lot of spices ground together...like cinamon, cardamom and lots of others. Not sure if it correspondes to All spice availbe easily. Garam= hot, masala= spices)
Salt to taste

2 cans of tomatoe puree.
2 tbsp of heavy cream ( i used sour cream instead)
puree of a handful of almonds.

Method:

1. Grind garlic, ginger, and halapeno into a fine paste.
2. In a pan heat the butter and saute the chopped onions and the above paste till almost brown
3. Then add the chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder, corriander powder and garam masala and salt and sautee more. All the spices will mix well and brown and you will know when it's done when the butter starts to seperate a lil from all the spices.
4. Once brown and cooked, add the pieces of chicken breasts and sautee till the chicken turns a lil white on all sides.
5. Now add the tomato puree and almond puree and mix well. If it's too thick add some watre and cover to cook.
6. Cook for about 35 mins or till chicken is done. Stir once or twice in the middle.
7. Just 5 mins before it's all done, add the heavy cream(or sour cream) and mix well.
8. Let it all cook for 5 mins and you are ready to serve!!!

Ideally served with white rice!

It's ohhh soo yum!!!
I hope everyone can try it! and if someone wants to real bad, i'll send you some of the spices if need be.

I'am just soo excited it came out very tasty! Smiley

10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / The Unconditional Swapper Swap (SEPTEMBER) on: September 05, 2005 12:32:04 PM
PLEASE NOTE: (this is regarding some questions i recieved while people signed up, and also some mistakes brought to my attention)
Please note very carefully:
Each person can be picked 2 TIMES! Means that only 2 people can send someone. withing those 2 people, the person may recieve all 3 items. I.e "A" and "B" are sending to "X". A chooses to send 1 item off the list, while B chooses to send the other 2 items. therfore fulfilling all 3 wishes of "X".
Now, it is not necessary to fulfill all three 3 wishes..."A" could send just one item and "B" could choose to send one item therb fulfilling 2 wishes on "X's" wishlist.

1. All regular swap rules do apply for this. All of you who sign up will be screened to see if you are eligible to join the swap. Including Newbies.
2. Yes, once you have been picked twice your name can be on the list again the next month, when the organizer changes. You can then post 3 new items or the same ones.
3. Once you pick someone you want to craft for, PM me and i'll give you their information.
4. Negative feedback will be given to those who say they will craft for someone but dont send eventually.
Swap name: Unconditional Swapper Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap:  JazzyBee (Organizers will change every month)
Sign-up date range: No closing date
Date to send item by: Must send out item within 2 weeks of picking a partner
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Heck No!!
Non-U.S. participants allowed? Of course!
All ages allowed? Or 18+? Sure, but make sure your parents are fine with it!Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES
PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS AND RULES VERY CAREFULLY.

Details of swap:
Each person interested will post a list of maximum THREE items they want. (Try and list items that you cannot make, but would like to have). These items must be reasonable, it must not be ones that would cost someone a truckload of money to make for you!
Once you have given your three items good thought, reply to this thread and post your 3 wishes, along with any other information that will be helpful for those looking to craft for you. (Color preferences, style, size, design etc)
Those coming along this thread will scroll and read all sign ups, and decide if they want to craft for someone. Those who sign up as well are free to craft for another.
The catch to this (not so traditional swap, if you decide to craft for someone) is you cannot expect anything in return for your efforts except THANK YOU!!!. That is why it's called an Unconditional swap. You can hope that someone else or maybe that same person would want to make you something as well and then craft for you. And knowing the great craftsters here, Im sure everyone will receive something.
2. There is no limit to the number of people that sign up. It is going to be a sort of ongoing swap. Each month the organizer will change. All information of the swap will be transferred to the next organizer. An announcement will be posted about this change. This month (Sept. 5th to Sept. 30 it's me Jazzybee, From the first of every other month, a new organizer will be in charge)
4. The crossed out names can be back on the list once the organizer changes (Every month)
5. As soon as anyone picks a partner, you have to ship him or her their stuff within 2 weeks.
6. It is not necessary but I would appreciate if you could PM me with the DC number or scan the receipt and email me a copy.
All in all this is sort of a good karma swap. Give unconditionally is your motto my fellow craftsters.
