1  Re: IYP 21 Summer Soiree Gallery in The Swap Gallery by miknessevie on: August 03, 2012 11:22:17 AM
A few of you have asked me how I made the craft box for Leslieshappyheart so I thought I'd share some tips.

I was first looking for a suitcase that I could rip apart and recover in fabric.  After lots of looking, the suitcase was not to be found.  I next started looking at Hobby Lobby where I found a box that would would perfect, though not as big as I had originally planned.  I picked out some paper I thought Leslie would like and then used Modge Podge to stick it to.  I had to use an xacto knife to cut around the hinges and such.  The magnetic lid has metal roof shingles under the paper, two to be exact, which I found at Lowe's.  (Tricky finding that part)  They are very thin so they worked perfect.  Next were magnets glued with E-6000 to the back of little containers, also found at Hobby Lobby.  I hope this helps!

Behold!  Wagonswest made me a sun painted flag with leaves.  I have never tried this technique but it looks nice!  Thanks so much.  Harmony!

So leslieshappyheart and I weren't actually swap partners in this swap, but we were in the latest IYP swap. We decided to swap prayer flags along with some other amazing items and I just can't help but post a picture of her very first one.  I hope that is ok-  maybe this will help get all your creative juices flowing!  Isn't it lovely?!

I just received the most thoughtful, lovely package from leslieshappyheart!  I just love everything in it!  First up is my favorite- a farm play mat!  Leslie is a master quilter and I have the best, most durable play mat for my kiddos.  She said I could even machine wash it!!

Oh- what's this?  Five adorable wooden cows by Anamalz to go with it!  Perfect since I will be having my 5th child born Sept. so there won't be any fighting over who gets a cow.

There is a stream with pond and lots of fields to play on.  There are also some puffy bushes and hedges!

We decided to swap prayer flags as well and- wow- this one is a beauty!  I love the colors!

Two felt patches, which I adore.  I reallly adore.  I have a love for chickens and sheep.  These are really so lovely!

Ok so this is not the best picture.  This apron is so much better looking than it turned out on the chair.  This is my first ever pretty apron and I'm soooo excited to use it!  I have very bla aprons which only serve their purpose but do nothing for looks.  My kitchen is even yellow so the colors in this are perfect!!

And to boot, Leslie made me matching towels!  I love these and had wanted to make some but I had a feeling that I would never actually get around to making them.  Again, I love the colors and I finally have some nice looking ones!

Oh my what next!  A berry bag!  Ahh I had soo wanted one of these.  Even the colors on this are perfect.  And what is inside?  Some charms!

So that last picture didn't turn out too clear.  The charms are on a piece of fabric that came as well.  Leslie if you have better picture to show off your masterpieces, please post them.  Everything is so well made and I am just so honored to own some of your sewn items.  Thank you so so so very much!

(I really have swap anxiety now  Tongue)

5  Into the Woods in CHALLENGE 75 ENTRIES by miknessevie on: June 04, 2012 11:16:42 AM
So I thought to myself, what would be a good entry to do with paper?  I came up with "Into the Woods" as paper comes from trees - hence my forest theme.  What would a forest be without some pine trees, a bear and some mushrooms?  This was my first altered match box and stamp carving.  I have wanted to carve some stamps for so long so I doodled some on paper and then transferred them to the pink block, and here they are. Items used were scrap book paper, a bead, a matchbox, pink speedy carve, some ink, modge podge and acrylic paint.

A box of woodsy goodness all fit into an altered paper matchbox strait from the forest.

Here are some of the lovely goodies I've gotten!  Love it all.  The slouch hat has sequins all over and is so neat!  I've already worn it!  The scrubbie does remind me of that bubbles scrubber guy.  Can't wait to wear the necklaces!  Any who doesn't love buttons! Thanks everyone!  Everything is so great!

9  glowey fridge magnets in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by miknessevie on: April 07, 2012 01:21:04 PM
These were made last year and I'm now just posting them!  I had two partners for the fridge magnet swap and the first theme was bats and spiders.  The second was birds.  I like working with those flat marble things so I just had to use them in these.  Sorry the first picture is so dark. I couldn't get it to photograph.  The webs, eyes and fangs all glow in the dark.  My second set I used glass lampwork bird beads.

10  turtle and water droplet hoopla in Needlework: Completed Projects by miknessevie on: April 07, 2012 01:12:09 PM
So here are my very first hoopla attempts!  This is a very late post as I made these for partners several rounds ago.  I'm very new to embroidery in general so I was pretty pleased with how these turned out.

Sea turtle using felt and some pleats for water waves.

Water droplet using felt.  Has a somewhat abstract feel I think.
